Transaxle Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the transaxle assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheel
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Hood
     
    Windshield wiper arms
     
    Outer cowl top panel
     
    Engine appearance cover
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Battery
     
    Back-up light switch connector
     
    Clutch release cylinder hose
     
    Air cleaner mounting bracket
     
    Transaxle control cables
     
    Both halfshafts
     
    Front floor panel brace
     
    Front exhaust pipe

  7. At this point, attach an engine hoist to support the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front suspension crossmember
     
    Starter
     

  10.  
  11. Support the transaxle with a suitable jack.
  12.  
  13. Remove the left-hand engine mounting bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the rear engine mounting bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 7 transaxle mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the transaxle assembly from the engine.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Align the input shaft with the clutch disc and install the transaxle to the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Engine left mounting bracket. Tighten the bracket bolts 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm); the mount bolts to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Starter
     
    Front suspension crossmember
     
    Halfshafts
     
    Front exhaust pipe
     
    Front floor panel brace
     
    Transaxle control cables
     
    Air cleaner mounting bracket. Tighten to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
     
    Clutch release cylinder hose
     
    Back-up light switch connector
     
    Battery
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Engine appearance cover
     
    Outer cowl top panel
     
    Windshield wiper arms
     
    Hood
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Refill the transaxle with fluid to the correct level.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the transaxle assembly.
  4.  
  5. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Steering intermediate shaft
     
    Front wheel
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Center exhaust pipe
     
    Hood
     
    Engine appearance cover
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Battery and battery tray
     
    Starter
     
    Back-up light switch
     
    Clutch release cylinder assembly
     
    Transaxle control cables
     
    Both halfshafts
     

  8.  
  9. At this point, attach an engine hoist to support the engine.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front suspension crossmember
     
    Left engine mount and bracket
     
    Transaxle
     

  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the transaxle to the engine. Tighten the bolts as follows:
    1. Bolts A to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Bolts B to 34 ft. lbs. (46 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Bolts C to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).

  3. Install or connect the following:

    Left engine mount and bracket. Tighten the bracket bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm). Tighten the mount bolt to 64 ft. lbs. (87 Nm).
     
    Front suspension crossmember
     
    Halfshafts
     
    Transaxle control cables
     
    Clutch release cylinder assembly
     
    Back-up light switch
     
    Starter
     
    Battery tray and battery
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Engine appearance cover
     
    Hood
     
    Center exhaust pipe
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Refill the transaxle with fluid to the correct level.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.
