1.5L Engines



  1. Remove the front wiper arms. For details, refer to the procedure in the Body Section.

  3. Remove the hood to cowl top seal.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cowl top ventilator louvers
  6.  
  7. Remove the windshield wiper link assembly. For details, refer to the procedure in the Body Section.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cowl panel sub-assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering pump oil reservoir cover.
  12.  
  13. Drain the power steering fluid.
  14.  
  15. Remove the right front wheel
  16.  
  17. Remove the right side engine under cover.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the fluid lines, as follows:
    1. Using SST 09023-12701, or equivalent tool, disconnect the pressure feed tube from the power steering pump assembly. Remove the clip and disconnect the return hose.
      NOTE
      Do not spill fluid on the drive belt.

    3. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor connector.

  21. Remove the bolt, the power steering pump rear stay and the heat insulator.
  22.  
  23. Remove power steering pump as follows:
    1. Remove bolts b and c and the adjusting strut.
    2.  
    3. Loosen bolt a sufficiently so that the power steering pump can
      NOTE
      Bolt a is not removable.

To install:

  1. Install power steering pump as follows:
    1. Temporarily install the power steering pump with bolt a.
      NOTE
      You will tighten the bolt after tensioning the belt.

    2.  
    3. Install the adjusting strut with bolt b. Tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Temporarily install bolt c.
      NOTE
      You will tighten the bolt after tensioning the belt.

  3. Install the power steering pump rear stay:
    1. Install the rear stay, to the rear of the housing, as shown in the illustration.

    3. Install the heat insulator and the stay rear with the bolt and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
      NOTE
      Install the heat insulator by pressing its projection into a hole in the bracket rear, as shown in the illustration.

  5. Connect the fluid lines, as follows:
    1. Connect pressure feed tube using the special tool and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
      NOTE
      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 345 mm (13.58 in.). This torque value is effective when the special tool is parallel to a torque wrench.

    3. Check that the pressure feed tube is properly attached to the rear stay.
    4.  
    5. Connect the return hose with the clip.
      WARNING
      Do not spill fluid on the belt.

    7. Connect the oil pressure sensor connector.
    8.

  7. Adjust power steering pump belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  8.  
  9. Inspect drive belt deflection and tension, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  10.  
  11. Add power steering fluid and bleed the system, as outlined in this section.
  12.  
  13. Check for fluid leaks.
  14.  
  15. Install the engine under cover and the front wheel and tire assembly.
  16.  
  17. Check the power steering fluid level in reservoir, and add if necessary.
  18.  
  19. Install power steering pump oil reservoir cover
  20.  
  21. Install the remaining components in the reverse of the removal procedure.
  22.  

2.4L Engine



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable container.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front right fender apron seal.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan-alternator belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  10.  
  11. Remove the clip and disconnect the oil reservoir to pump hose no.1.
    WARNING
    Do not spill fluid on the belt.

  13. Disconnect the pressure feed tube as follows:
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the pressure feed tube from the pump bracket rear.
    2.  
    3. Using a wrench (27 mm) to hold the pressure port union, remove the union bolt and gasket.
    4.

  15. Remove the power steering pump as follows:
    1. Disconnect the connector from the oil pressure switch.
    2.  
    3. Using SST 09249-63010, or equivalent, and a deep socket (14 mm), loosen the 2 bolts.
    4.  
    5. Remove the power steering pump assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the power steering pump as follows:
    1. Temporarily install the 2 bolts to the power steering pump assembly.
    2.  
    3. Install the power steering pump with the 2 bolts.
    4.  
    5. Using SST 09249-63010, or equivalent, and a deep socket (14 mm), fully tighten the bolts. To 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
      NOTE
      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 in.). This torque value is effective when the special tool is parallel to the torque wrench.

    7. Attach the connector to the oil pressure switch.

  3. Connect the pressure feed tube as follows:
    1. Install the pressure feed tube and a new gasket to the power steering pump with the union bolt.
      NOTE
      Make sure the stopper of the pressure feed tube touches the power steering pump body.

    3. Using a 27mm wrench to hold the pressure port union, tighten the union bolt to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
    4.

  5. Install the pressure feed tube with the bolt to the rear pump bracket and tighten to 69 inch lbs. (7.8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the oil reservoir to pump hose no.1 with the clip.
    WARNING
    Do not spill fluid on the belt.

  9. Install the fan-alternator belt, as outlined in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  10.  
  11. Install the front fender apron seal and front wheel and tire.
  12.  
  13. Add power steering fluid and bleed the system, as outlined in this section.
  14.  
  15. Check for fluid leaks.
