Coil Springs

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Skid control sensor wire
     
    Brake hose
     
    Parking brake cable
     

  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle with a suitable jack stand.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the rear axle beam assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower shock absorber mounting nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the coil spring.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the rear coil spring.
  2.  
  3. Temporarily install the lower shock absorber mounting nut.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Parking brake cable
     
    Brake hose
     
    Skid control sensor wire
     

  6.  
  7. Lower the rear suspension.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the rear axle beam assembly to 60 ft. lbs. (82 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Fully tighten the lower shock absorber nut to 36 ft. lbs (49 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the wheel.
  14.  
  15. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment if necessary.
  16.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut from the vehicle and install a Spring Compressor Tool.
  4.  
  5. Compress the coil spring so that the end of the spring comes away from the spring seat.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Upper mounting nut
     
    Shock cushion washer
     
    Suspension support
     
    Front spring bracket
     
    Spring bumper
     
    Upper spring insulator
     
    Coil spring
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Compress the coil spring with Spring Compress tool.
  2.  
  3. Install the coil spring on the strut assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Spring bumper
     
    Suspension support
     
    Upper spring insulator
     
    Shock cushion washer
     
    Upper mounting nut. Tighten to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm)
