  5. Check the spark plug for any damage on its thread and/or insulator.
  6.
  7. If there is any damage, replace the spark plug.
  8.
  9. For 1.5L engines, following are the recommended spark plugs:
    1. Denso - K16R-U
    2.
    3. NGK - BKR5EYA
    4.

  10.
  11. For 2.4L engines, following are the recommended spark plugs:
    1. Denso - SK20R11
    2.
    3. NGK - IFR6A11
    4.

  12.
  13. For the 1.5L engine, check the electrode gap. The gap should be 0.7-0.8mm (0.028-0.031 in. If the specification falls outside of the range, the spark plug must be replaced.
  14.
  15. For the 2.4L engine, check the electrode gap and compare with the following specifications:
    1. Standard: 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.) for a new spark plug
    2.
    3. Maximum: 1.3 mm (0.051 in.) for a used spark plug
    4.
    5. If the electrode gap is greater than maximum, replace the spark plug.
