Removal & Installation

CAUTION
Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions could result in possible personal injury or death.

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to Discharging the System and Evacuating the System.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts, removal & installation.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the harness connector from the A/C compressor clutch coil connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts that secure the A/C suction line and the A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor.

  11. Disconnect the A/C suction and the discharge lines from the A/C compressor. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
  12.  
  13. Cover the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports by installing plugs or tape over the openings.
  14.  
  15. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket.
  18.  
  19. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.
  20.  

To install:


NOTE
Be certain to check the refrigerant oil level if the A/C compressor is being replaced. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

  1. Position the A/C compressor onto the mounting bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened fittings on the A/C suction line and the A/C discharge line and the compressor ports.
  8.  
  9. Lubricate the new O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the suction and the discharge line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install the A/C suction and discharge lines onto the A/C compressor.
  12.  
  13. Install the bolts that secure the A/C suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the wire harness connector to the A/C compressor clutch coil connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Accessory Drive Belts, removal & installation.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to Evacuating the System.
  22.  
  23. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to Charging the System.
  24.
