Upper Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front strut assembly from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Disassemble the strut assembly until the upper mounting bracket is removed from the coil spring.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts attaching the upper control arm to the bushings in the upper mounting bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper control arm from the mounting bracket.

To install:

  1. Install the upper control arm on the upper (strut absorber/upper control arm) mounting bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the 2 bolts attaching the upper control arm to the bushings in the mounting bracket.
    WARNING
    For clearance reasons, the control arm mounting bolts must be installed from the center, so the heads are toward the coil spring when it is installed. Otherwise, the bolts may rub the coil spring and cause damage to the components.

  4.  
  5. Install the control arm mounting bolt nuts. Position the control arm at a 90° angle to the mounting bracket and tighten the bolts to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the upper mounting bracket and control arm on the coil spring.
  8.  
  9. Assemble the front strut assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the front strut assembly on the vehicle.
