Removal & Installation

WARNING
The Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) must be replaced whenever transaxle is separated from engine. Return CSC insert to original position to remove transaxle assembly. Clutch dust may damage seal and cause fluid leakage.

WARNING
Do not operate CSC/clutch pedal with transaxle and engine separated because piston and stopper will fall off.

NOTE
Any time the transaxle is removed, replace the Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the engine and transaxle from the vehicle as an assembly. See Engine Removal & Installation.
  4.
  5. Separate the engine from the transaxle.
  6.
  7. Insert a clutch disc centering tool into the clutch disc hub for support.
  8.
  9. Loosen the pressure plate bolts evenly in reverse order of the tightening sequence, a little at a time to prevent distortion
  10.
  11. Remove clutch assembly.
  12.
  13. Remove CSC from clutch housing.
  14.

To install:

  1. Install a new CSC and torque the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  2.
  3. Apply a light coating of chassis lube to the splines on the transaxle input shaft.
    WARNING
Keep grease off CSC to prevent fluid leakage.

  4.
  5. Fit the clutch disc in place using the centering tool.
  6.
  7. Install the pressure plate and all bolts finger tight.
  8.
  9. Torque the pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern, first to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm), then to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    NOTE
DO NOT draw the transaxle to the engine with the bolts. This may damage the clutch and/or transaxle.
