Removal & Installation

WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator. Wrap a thick cloth around the cap. Slowly turn it a quarter of a turn to release built-up pressure. Carefully remove radiator cap by turning it all the way.


NOTE
When removing components such as hoses, or tubes/lines, etc., cap or plug openings to prevent fluid from spilling.

  1. Partially drain engine coolant from radiator. Refer to Engine Coolant in the Engine Cooling Section.
    NOTE
    Perform this step when engine is cold.


    NOTE
    Do not spill engine coolant on drive belt.

  3. Remove air duct (inlet). Refer to Air Intake System in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect radiator hose (upper) at radiator side. Refer to Radiator in the Engine Cooling Section.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect harness connectors from fan motor, and position harness aside.
  8.  
  9. Remove cooling fan assembly.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage or scratch the radiator core.

To install:


NOTE
Cooling fans are controlled by ECM. For details, refer to Electronic Control Module in the Engine Performance & Emission Control Section.


WARNING
Be careful not to damage or scratch the radiator core.

  1. Install cooling fan assembly.
  2.  
  3. Connect harness connectors from fan motor, and position harness aside.
  4.  
  5. Connect radiator hose (upper) at radiator side. Refer to Radiator in the Engine Cooling Section.
    NOTE
    Perform this step when engine is cold.


    NOTE
    Do not spill engine coolant on drive belt.

  6.  
  7. Install air duct (inlet). Refer to Air Intake System in the Engine Mechanical Section.

  9. Fill engine coolant from radiator. Refer to Engine Coolant in the Engine Cooling Section.
