Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the engine under cover.
  2.  
  3. Separate intermediate shaft from steering gear pinion shaft. Refer to Power Rack & Pinion Steering Gear in the Steering Section.
  4.  
  5. Remove front tires using power tool.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut on the lower side of stabilizer connecting rod using power tool, and then remove stabilizer connecting rod from stabilizer bar.
  8.  
  9. If necessary remove stabilize connecting rod upper nut using power tool. Separate stabilizer connecting rod and strut.
  10.  
  11. Loosen steering outer socket nut.
  12.  
  13. Remove steering outer socket from steering knuckle so as not to damage ball joint boot using Tool HT72520000 (J-25730-A).
    WARNING
    Temporarily tighten the nut to prevent damage to threads and to prevent the Tool from suddenly coming off.

  15. Remove the heated oxygen sensor bracket from the suspension member.
  16.  
  17. Remove rear torque rod. Refer to Engine Assembly in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  18.  
  19. Set Tool under the front suspension member, then remove the bolts from the front suspension member using power tool.
  20.  
  21. Remove the bolts of member stay using power tool, and then remove member stay.
  22.  
  23. Gradually lower front suspension member in order to remove stabilizer bolts.

  25. Remove the stabilizer clamp bolts, then remove stabilizer clamps and stabilizer bushing.

  27. Remove stabilizer bar.

  29. Inspection after removal:
    1. Check stabilizer bar, stabilizer connecting rod, stabilizer bushing, and stabilizer clamp for deformation, cracks, and damage. Replace it if necessary.

To install:

  1. Install stabilizer bar.
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer clamp bolts, then install stabilizer clamps and stabilizer bushing.
  4.  
  5. Gradually lower front suspension member in order to install stabilizer bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install the bolts of member stay using power tool, and then install member stay.
  8.  
  9. Set Tool under the front suspension member, then install the bolts to the front suspension member using power tool.
  10.  
  11. Install rear torque rod. Refer to Engine Assembly in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  12.  
  13. Install the heated oxygen sensor bracket to the suspension member.
    WARNING
    Temporarily tighten the nut to prevent damage to threads and to prevent the Tool from suddenly coming off.

  15. Install steering outer socket to steering knuckle so as not to damage ball joint boot using Tool HT72520000 (J-25730-A).
  16.  
  17. Tighten steering outer socket nut.
  18.  
  19. If necessary install stabilize connecting rod upper nut using power tool. Engage stabilizer connecting rod and strut.
  20.  
  21. Install the nut on the lower side of stabilizer connecting rod using power tool, and then install stabilizer connecting rod to stabilizer bar.
  22.  
  23. Install front tires using power tool.
  24.  
  25. Install intermediate shaft to steering gear pinion shaft. Refer to Power Rack & Pinion Steering Gear in the Steering Section.
  26.  
  27. Install the engine under cover.
    NOTE
    For tightening specifications, refer to the accompanying illustration.
