Removal & Installation



2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Remove cowl top. Refer to Fenders & Body Panels in the Body Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove exhaust front tube. Refer to Exhaust System in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  4.  
  5. Remove exhaust manifold cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the A/F ratio sensor 1.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage heated oxygen sensor or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor.


    NOTE
    Discard any heated oxygen sensor or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 19.7 inch (0.5 m) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one.

  9. Remove exhaust manifold side bolt of exhaust manifold stay.
  10.  
  11. Loosen nuts, and remove exhaust manifold.
    NOTE
    Cover engine openings to avoid entry of foreign materials.

Inspection After Removal

  1. Surface Distortion
    1. Using straightedge and feeler gauge, check the surface distortion of exhaust manifold mating surface in each exhaust port and entire part.
    2.  
    3. If it exceeds the limit, replace exhaust manifold.

To install:

  1. Install exhaust manifold gasket to cylinder head.

  3. Tighten exhaust manifold nuts to specification in two stages in the numerical order.

  5. Install exhaust manifold stay.
    1. Install exhaust manifold stay in the direction as shown (except for California).

  7. Install the A/F ratio sensor 1, using Tool.
    NOTE
    Handle it carefully and avoid impacts.


    NOTE
    Before installing a new A/F ratio sensor, clean the exhaust tube threads using suitable tool and approved anti-seize lubricant.


    NOTE
    Do not over-tighten the A/F ratio sensor. Doing so may damage the A/F ratio sensor, resulting in the MIL coming on.

  9. Installation of the remaining parts is in the reverse order of removal.

2.5L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Remove the engine undercover. Refer to Engine Undercover in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the splash shield (RH). Refer to Fenders & Body Panels in the Body Section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front air duct. Refer to Air Intake System in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  6.  
  7. Remove generator and generator bracket. Refer to Generator in the Engine Electrical Section.
  8.  
  9. Remove the exhaust front tube. Refer to Exhaust System in the Engine Performance & Emission Controls Section.
  10.  
  11. Remove oil level indicator tube.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector of heated oxygen sensor 1 or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1, and unhook the harness from the bracket and middle clamp on the cover.
  14.  
  15. Remove the heated oxygen sensor 1 or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage heated oxygen sensor or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor.


    NOTE
    Discard any heated oxygen sensor or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7 in) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one.

  17. Remove the lower exhaust manifold covers.
  18.  
  19. Remove the upper exhaust manifold cover.
  20.  
  21. Loosen the nuts in reverse order as shown, on the exhaust manifold and three way catalyst.

  23. Remove the exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly and gasket. Discard the gasket.

Inspection After Removal

  1. Surface Distortion
    1. Use a reliable straightedge and feeler gauge to check the flatness of exhaust manifold fitting surface.

To install:

  1. Install a new gasket and then the exhaust manifold. Tighten the nuts in the proper sequence and to the specifications shown in the accompanying illustration.

  3. Clean the A/F sensor and heated oxygen sensor threads with the Tools (Oxygen sensor thread cleaner : J-43897-18, Oxygen sensor thread cleaner : J-43897-12), then apply the anti-seize lubricant to the threads before installing the A/F sensor and heated oxygen sensors.
    WARNING
    Do not over-tighten the A/F sensors and heated oxygen sensors. Doing so may cause damage to the A/F sensors and heated oxygen sensors, resulting in a malfunction and the MIL coming on.

  4.  
  5. Install the exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly and gasket.
  6.  
  7. Install the upper exhaust manifold cover.
  8.  
  9. Install the lower exhaust manifold covers.
  10.  
  11. Install the heated oxygen sensor 1 or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage heated oxygen sensor or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor.


    NOTE

  13. Connect the electrical connector of heated oxygen sensor 1 or air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1, and unhook the harness to the bracket and middle clamp on the cover.

  15. Install oil level indicator tube.
  16.  
  17. Install the exhaust front tube. Refer to Exhaust System in the Engine Performance & Emission Controls Section.
  18.  
  19. Install generator and generator bracket. Refer to Generator in the Engine Electrical Section.
