Removal & Installation

2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

CAUTION
Perform the procedure with the exhaust system fully cooled down because the system will be hot just after the engine is turned off.

CAUTION
Be careful not to cut your hand on heat insulator edges.

NOTE
Use genuine NISSAN exhaust system parts or equivalent, which are specially designed for heat resistance, corrosion resistance and shape.

  1. Remove exhaust system components using power tools.
    1. Remove heated oxygen sensor using Tool KV10114400(J-38365) as needed.
      WARNING
Be careful not to damage heated oxygen sensor.

To install:

NOTE
Always replace exhaust gaskets and seal bearings with new ones when installing.

NOTE
Before installing a new heated oxygen sensor, clean and apply anti-seize lubricant to exhaust system threads using suitable tool. Oxygen sensor thread cleaner: J-43897-18, and Oxygen sensor thread cleaner: J-43897-12.

NOTE
Discard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7 in) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; install a new one.

WARNING
Do not over-tighten the heated oxygen sensor. Doing so may damage the heated oxygen sensor, resulting in the MIL coming on.

NOTE
Remove deposits from the sealing surface of each connection. Connect them securely to avoid exhaust leakage.

NOTE
Temporarily tighten nuts on the exhaust manifold side and bolts on the vehicle side. Check each part for unusual interference, and then tighten them to the specified torque.

NOTE
When installing each mounting rubber, avoid twisting or unusual extension in up/down and right/left directions.

Exhaust Manifold to Exhaust Front Tube

  1. Securely insert seal bearing into exhaust manifold side in the direction as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    1. Exhaust front tube.
      WARNING
Be careful not to damage seal bearing surface when installing.

    2.

  2.
  3. Install spring, tighten nut.
    1. Be careful that the stud bolt nut does not interfere with the flanged area.
    2.
    3. Make sure the spring sits properly on the flange surface by aligning it to the locator dimples.

Exhaust Front Tube to Center Muffler

  1. Securely insert seal bearing into exhaust front tube side in the direction shown.
    1. Center muffler.
      WARNING
Be careful not to damage seal bearing surface when installing.

      CAUTION
Perform the procedure with the exhaust system fully cooled down because the system will be hot just after the engine is turned off.

    2.

  6.

Inspection After Installation

  1. With the engine running, check the exhaust tube joints for exhaust gas leaks and abnormal noise.
  2.
  3. Check that the mounting brackets and mounting insulators are installed properly and free from excessive stress. Improper installation could result in excessive noise, leaks, and vibration.
  4.

2.5L Engine

Specific to:

To install:

NOTE
Always replace exhaust gaskets with new ones when reassembling.

NOTE
Before installing a new heated oxygen sensor, clean and lube the exhaust tube threads using suitable tool. Oxygen sensor thread cleaner : - (J-43897-18), and Oxygen sensor thread cleaner : - (J-43897-12).

WARNING
Discard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 19.7 in. (0.5 m) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; install a new one.

WARNING
Do not over-tighten the heated oxygen sensor. Doing so may damage the heated oxygen sensor, resulting in the MIL coming on.

WARNING
If any mounting insulator is badly deformed, repair or replace it. If deposits such as mud pile up on the mounting insulator, clean and inspect them.

NOTE
When installing the insulator avoid large gaps or interference between the insulator and each exhaust pipe.

NOTE
Remove deposits from the sealing surface of each connection. Connect them securely to avoid exhaust gas leaks.

NOTE
Temporarily tighten the exhaust manifold side nuts and the vehicle side bolts. Check each part for any interference, and then tighten the nuts and bolts to specification as shown in accompanying illustration.

NOTE
When installing each mounting rubber, avoid twisting or excessive extension in up/down and right/left directions.

NOTE
Tighten the bolts without causing interference with the flange.
