Removal & Installation



2.5L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Remove the engine and transaxle as an assembly from the vehicle, and separate the transaxle from the engine. Refer to Engine in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  2.  
  3. Mount the engine on a suitable engine stand.
  4.  
  5. Drain any remaining engine oil and coolant from the engine.
  6.  
  7. Remove the following components and associated parts.

    Exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly. Refer to Exhaust Manifold in the Engine Mechanical Section.
     
    Intake manifold and fuel tube assembly. Refer to Intake Manifold in the Engine Mechanical Section.
     
    Ignition coils. Refer to Distributorless Ignition System in the Engine Electrical Section.
     
    Rocker cover. Refer to Rocker Arm (Valve) Cover in the Engine Mechanical Section.
     
    Front cover, timing chain, and balancer unit. Refer to Timing Chain, Front Cover and Seal, Sprockets.
     
    Cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head in the Engine Mechanical Section.

  9. Remove the knock sensor.
    WARNING
    Carefully handle the sensor and do not drop the sensor.

  11. Remove Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor (POS).
    WARNING
    Avoid impacts such as a dropping.


    NOTE
    Do not disassemble.


    NOTE
    Keep it away from metal particles.


    NOTE
    Do not place sensor close to magnetic materials.

  13. Remove the flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models). Hold the crankshaft with a stopper plate and use a suitable tool to remove the bolts.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage the flywheel contact surface for the clutch disc.


    NOTE
    The flywheel two-block construction allows movement in response to transmission side pressure, or when twisted in its rotational direction, therefore, some amount of noise is normal.

    Fig. Remove the flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models). Hold the crankshaft with a stopper plate and use a suitable tool to remove the bolts.

To install:

  1. Install flywheel (M/T Models), or drive plate (CVT Models). Tighten the bolts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
    1. Install drive plate, reinforcement plate and pilot converter.

    3. Using a drift with 1.30 in. (33 mm) diameter, push pilot converter into the end of the crankshaft.

  3. Install the knock sensor.
    1. Make sure that there is no foreign material on the cylinder block mating surface and the back surface of the knock sensor.
    2.  
    3. Install the knock sensor with the connector facing lower left by 45°. Tighten the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (21.1 Nm).

    5. Do not tighten the bolts while holding the connector.
    6.  
    7. Make sure that the knock sensor does not interfere with other parts.
      NOTE
      If the knock sensor is dropped, replace it with new one.

  5. Install the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor (POS). Tighten the bolt to 62 inch lbs. (7.0 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Installation of remaining components is in the reverse order of removal.
  8.  
  9. Install the following components and associated parts.

    Cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head in the Engine Mechanical Section.
     
    Front cover, timing chain, and balancer unit. Refer to Timing Chain, Front Cover and Seal, Sprockets.
     
    Rocker cover. Refer to Rocker Arm (Valve) Cover in the Engine Mechanical Section.
     
    Ignition coils. Refer to Distributorless Ignition System in the Engine Electrical Section.
     
    Intake manifold and fuel tube assembly. Refer to Intake Manifold in the Engine Mechanical Section.
     
    Exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly. Refer to Exhaust Manifold in the Engine Mechanical Section.

  11. Fill engine oil and coolant to the engine.
  12.  
  13. Install the engine and transaxle as an assembly to the vehicle, and separate the transaxle from the engine. Refer to Engine in the Engine Mechanical Section.

2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Remove engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle, separate transaxle from engine. Refer to Engine in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  2.  
  3. Install engine to engine stand as follows;
    1. Remove flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models).
      WARNING
      Be careful not to damage or scratch drive plate (CVT models) and contact surface for clutch disc of flywheel (M/T models).



      Secure flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models) using Tool, and remove bolts.

    3. Lift the engine with a hoist to install it onto widely use engine stand.
      NOTE
      Use the engine stand that has a load capacity [approximately 135 kg (298 lb.) or more] large enough for supporting the engine weight.


      NOTE
      If the load capacity of stand is not adequate, remove the following parts beforehand to reduce the potential risk of overturning stand.


      NOTE
      The figure shows an example of widely used engine stand (A) that can support mating surface of transaxle with flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models) removed.


      CAUTION
      Before removing the hanging chains, make sure the engine stand is stable and there is no risk of overturning.



      Exhaust manifold; Refer to Exhaust Manifold in the Engine Mechanical Section.
       
      Rocker cover; Refer to Rocker Arm (Valve) Cover in the Engine Mechanical Section.

To install:


CAUTION
Before removing the hanging chains, make sure the engine stand is stable and there is no risk of overturning.


NOTE
The figure shows an example of widely used engine stand (A) that can support mating surface of transaxle with flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models) removed.

  1. Install engine to engine stand as follows:
    1. Lift the engine with a hoist to install it onto widely use engine stand.
      NOTE
      Use the engine stand that has a load capacity [approximately 135 kg (298 lb.) or more] large enough for supporting the engine weight.


      NOTE
      If the load capacity of stand was not adequate, install the following parts that were removed beforehand to reduce the potential risk of overturning stand.



      Rocker cover; Refer to Rocker Arm (Valve) Cover in the Engine Mechanical Section.
       
      Exhaust manifold; Refer to Exhaust Manifold in the Engine Mechanical Section.

    3. Install flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models).
      NOTE
      M/T models have no pilot converter and reinforcement plate.


      WARNING
      Be careful not to damage or scratch drive plate (CVT models) and contact surface for clutch disc of flywheel (M/T models).



      Secure flywheel (M/T models) or drive plate (CVT models) using Tool KV11105210 (J-44716), and install bolts. Tighten bolts crosswise over several times to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
       
      Install pilot converter, drive plate and reinforcement plate (CVT models).

      Using a suitable tool of 33 mm. (1.30 in) in diameter, press-fit pilot converter into the end of crankshaft until it stops (CVT models).

  3. Install engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle, separate transaxle from engine. Refer to Engine in the Engine Mechanical Section.
