Removal & Installation



2.0L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Drain engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Remove engine and transaxle assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove oil filter.
  6.  
  7. Remove lower oil pan bolts in reverse order.
  8.  
  9. After removing the pan, clean off the sealant being careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
  10.  
  11. Remove the flywheel.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front cover, timing chain, and the oil pump drive chain
  14.  
  15. Remove oil pan (lower) bolts in reverse order as shown in the accompanying illustration.

To install:


WARNING
The rear oil seal should be installed within 5 minutes after installing upper oil pan. Always replace rear oil seal with new one. Never touch oil seal lip.

  1. Carefully scrape old liquid gasket from mating surfaces on oil pan and cylinder block.
  2.  
  3. Remove old liquid gasket from the bolt holes and threads.
  4.  
  5. Apply RTV liquid gasket to the oil pan. The bead should be outside the four center bolt holes and inside the four corner bolt holes.
  6.  
  7. Install new oil filter passage O-ring on the cylinder block. Make sure it-s properly aligned.
  8.  
  9. Fit the pan into place on the block and tighten bolts in numerical order to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install rear oil seal with the following procedure.

    Wipe off liquid gasket protruding from the block/pan assembly.
     
    Apply engine oil to entire outside area of rear oil seal.
     
    Press-fit the rear oil seal using a press tool with outer diameter 4.53 in. (115mm) and inner diameter 3.54 in. (90 mm) Press-fit straight until seal is flush with engine block, making sure that rear oil seal does not curl or tilt.

  13. Install oil pump sprocket, oil pump drive chain and other related parts if removed.
  14.  
  15. Use a scraper (A) to remove old liquid gasket from mating surfaces on lower oil pan.
  16.  
  17. Remove old liquid gasket from the bolt holes and threads.
  18.  
  19. Apply a bead of RTV sealant, staying inside all the bolt holes.
  20.  
  21. Tighten bolts in numerical order to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install oil filter, hand tight only.
  24.  
  25. Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal.
  26.  

2.5L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle and drain the oil.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  4.  
  5. Remove power steering cooler hose bracket from suspension member.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front subframe for clearance to remove the oil pan.

    Remove nut on lower portion of stabilizer bar connecting rod from lower suspension arm.
     
    Remove suspension arm from subframe and swing it outward.
     
    Remove front exhaust pipe.
     
    Support engine or transmission with a jack.
     
    Remove steering gear bolts. Remove steering gear and power steering tube bracket from suspension member. Hang steering gear.
     
    Set a jack under subframe and remove the nuts.

  9. Remove the lower oil pan bolts and remove the pan.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil strainer.
  12.  
  13. Remove rear plate cover and four engine-to transaxle bolts.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the upper oil pan bolts and remove the upper oil pan. Note the different bolt lengths.

To install:

  1. Carefully clean all sealing surfaces and apply a bead of RTV sealant to the upper oil pan. Install new O-rings and fit the pan into place. Start the bolts finger tight.
  2.  
  3. Torque the oil pan bolts in sequence to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Torque the pan-to-transaxle bolts to 31 ft. lbs. (46 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the strainer and torque the bolts
  8.  
  9. Apply RTV to the lower oil pan to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the subframe:

    Raise the subframe into place and start all fasteners.
     
    Torque the large subframe bolts to 107 ft. lbs. (145 Nm).
     
    Torque the suspension arm bolts to 114 ft. lbs. (155 Nm).
     
    Reconnect steering gear and stabilizer bar.

  13. Install the remaining components and refill the engine with oil.
  14.  
  15. Run the engine to check for leaks.
  16.
