The oil pump and balance shafts are all one assembly and cannot be disassembled or repaired.

2.5L Engine

Specific to:

Nissan Sentra 2007-2012

  1. Remove the oil pump cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove inner rotor and outer rotor from front cover.
  4.  
  5. After removing regulator plug, remove regulator spring and regulator valve.
  6.  
  7. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between outer rotor and oil pump body (position 1).

    0.0045-0.0070 in. (0.114-0.179 mm)
     

  8.  
  9. Measure the clearance between the inner rotor and outer rotor (position 2).

    0.0067-0.0087 in. (0.170-0.220 mm)
     

  10.  
  11. Using feeler gauges and a straight edge, measure the side clearance between the inner rotor and oil pump body (position 3)

    0.0012-0.0028 in. (0.030-0.070 mm.
     
    0.0012-0.0028 in. (0.030-0.070 mm.
     

  12.  
  13. Measure the side clearance between the outer rotor and oil pump body (position 4)

    0.0024-0.0043 in. (0.060-0.110 mm)
     
    0.0020-0.0043 in. (0.050-0.110 mm)
     

  14.  
  15. Calculate the clearance between inner rotor and oil pump body as follows:

    Measure the outer diameter of protruded portion of inner rotor (Position 5).
     
    Measure the inner diameter of oil pump body with inside micrometer (Position 6).
     
    Clearance = (Inner diameter of oil pump body) - (Outer diameter of inner rotor).
     
    0.0016-0.0038 in. (0.040-0.097 mm)
     

  16.  
  17. Calculate regulator valve clearance using the same technique.
    WARNING
    Coat regulator valve with engine oil. Check that it falls smoothly into the valve hole by its own weight.



    0.0014-0.0028 in. (0.035-0.070 mm).

Removal & Installation



2.5L Engine
  1. Remove the oil pump cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove inner rotor and outer rotor from front cover.
  4.  
  5. After removing regulator plug, remove regulator spring and regulator valve.

INSPECTION AFTER DISASSEMBLY

  1. Measure the clearance of the oil pump parts.
    1. Measure clearance with feeler gauge.
    2.  
    3. Clearance between outer rotor and oil pump body (position 1). Standard: 0.0045-0.0070 in. (0.114-0.179 mm).
    4.  
    5. Tip clearance between inner rotor and outer rotor (position 2). Standard: 0.0067-0.0087 in. (0.170-0.220 mm).

    13. Calculate the clearance between inner rotor and oil pump body as follows:
      NOTE

NOTE
Before installation, apply new engine oil to the parts as shown in the accompanying illustration.


NOTE
Install the inner rotor and outer rotor with the punched marks on the oil pump cover side.

  1. Before installing regulator plug, install regulator spring and regulator valve.
  2.  
  3. Install inner rotor and outer rotor from front cover.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pump cover.
