Transverse Link

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove front tires from vehicle with a power tool.
  2.  
  3. Remove connecting rod to stabilizer bar nut. Remove connecting rod from stabilizer bar then reposition connecting rod.
  4.  
  5. Remove transverse link nuts and bolts, then remove transverse link from front suspension member.
  6.  
  7. Remove transverse link ball joint to steering knuckle nut and bolt, then remove transverse link.

Inspection After Removal

Visual Inspection

  1. Check the following:
    1. Transverse link and bushing for deformation, cracks or damage. Replace it if necessary.
    2.  
    3. Swing torque: 5-43 inch lbs. (0.5-4.9 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Spring balance measurement: 3.5-40 ft. lbs. (15.4-150.8 Nm).

      Fig. Hook Tool J-44372 at the cutout on ball stud. Confirm Tool measurement value is within specifications when ball stud begins moving. Swing torque: 5-43 inch lbs. (0.5-4.9 Nm). Spring balance measurement: 3.5-40 ft. lbs. (15.4-150.8 Nm).

  3. If it is outside the specified range, replace transverse link assembly.

Axial End Play Inspection

  1. Move tip of ball stud in axial direction to check for looseness.
  2.  
  3. If it is outside the specified range, replace transverse link assembly. Axial end play 0 in (0 mm).
  4.  

To install:

  1. Install transverse link ball joint to steering knuckle nut and bolt, then install transverse link.
  2.  
  3. Install transverse link nuts and bolts, then install transverse link to front suspension member.
  4.  
  5. Install connecting rod to stabilizer bar nut. Install connecting rod to stabilizer bar then reposition connecting rod.
  6.  
  7. Install front tires to vehicle with a power tool.
    NOTE
    For tightening specifications, refer to the accompanying illustration.


    NOTE
    Perform final tightening of bolts and at the front suspension member installation position (rubber bushing) under unladen conditions with tires on level ground. Check wheel alignment.
