NOTE
There are two thermostats on these engines. The lower one is referred to as a -thermostat,- while the upper one is referred to as a -water control valve.-

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove front air duct and engine undercover as necessary.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Remove radiator lower hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove engine coolant inlet and thermostat.

To install:

  1. Fit a new rubber ring on the thermostat, making sure the flange seats properly inside the ring.
  2.  
  3. Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve facing upwards. The position deviation may be within the range of +/- 10°.
  4.  
  5. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal procedure
  6.  
  7. Fill the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. After installation, run engine for a few minutes and check for leaks.
