Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Matchmark the hood position.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Hood
     
    Wiper and blade assembly
     
    Top cowl seal and panel
     
    Window washer hoses from the ventilator louvers
     
    Left and right ventilator louvers
     
    Heater air duct

  6.  
  7. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Both battery cables
     
    Battery and tray
     

  10.  
  11. Drain the engine coolant.
  12.  
  13. Drain the engine oil.
  14.  
  15. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    It may be necessary to remove the air conditioning compressor lines in order to remove the engine.



    Intake air cleaner and case assembly
     
    Cruise control actuator, if equipped
     
    Upper and lower radiator hoses
     
    Radiator
     
    Automatic transmission oil cooler lines
     
    Any connectors, hoses and sensors that would interfere with engine removal
     
    Engine Control Module (ECM) engine wiring harness from inside the glove box; then, pull the harness into the engine compartment
     
    Compressor

    Automatic transmission shifter cable from the transaxle
     
    Header pipes from the exhaust manifolds
     
    Left and right fender apron seals
     
    Halfshafts
     
    Stabilizer links and the steering intermediate shaft
     
    Power steering pump
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Engine hanger to the engine
     
    Engine sling device to the engine hangers
     
    Right-hand motor mount and moving control rod
     
    Front suspension lower braces

  17. Lower the engine, transaxle and front suspension member as an assembly from the vehicle.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Raise the engine, transaxle and front suspension member as an assembly into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the front suspension lower braces, and tighten the fasteners, as follows:

    Bolt A: 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm)
     
    Bolt B: 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm)
     
    Nut C: 27 ft. lbs. (36 Nm)
     

  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Moving control rod. Tighten the bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
     
    Right-hand motor mount. Tighten the bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
     
    Engine sling device from the engine hangers
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Power steering pump hoses
     
    Stabilizer links and the steering intermediate shaft
     
    Halfshafts
     
    Left and right fender apron seals
     
    Header pipes to the exhaust manifolds
     
    Automatic transmission shifter cable to the transaxle
     
    Air conditioning compressor to the engine
     

  6.  
  7. Push the wiring harness into the glove box.
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    ECM
     
    Any connectors, hoses and sensors that were removed
     
    Automatic transmission oil cooler lines
     
    Upper and lower radiator hoses and fit the radiator
     
    Cruise control actuator, if removed
     
    Intake air cleaner and case assembly
     

  10.  
  11. Fill the engine oil to proper level.
  12.  
  13. Fill the engine with coolant.
  14.  
  15. Install or connect the following:

    Battery tray and battery
     
    Battery cables
     
    Heater air duct
     
    Left and right ventilator louvers
     
    Window washer hoses from the ventilator louvers
     
    Top cowl seal and panel
     
    Wiper and blade assembly
     
    Hood
     
    New oil filter
     

  16.  
  17. Refill the engine with oil.
  18.  
  19. Refill the engine with engine coolant.
  20.  
  21. Install the engine undercovers.
  22.  
  23. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  24.
