Throttle Body

Removal & Installation



4.3L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator adapter stud.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cruise control cable.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stud and nuts retaining the accelerator control cable bracket and position bracket aside.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the Idle air Control (IAC) valve harness connector.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor harness connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the throttle body retaining studs.
  18.  
  19. Remove the throttle body assembly.
  20.  
  21. Discard the throttle body seal.

To install:


CAUTION
Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

  1. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body assembly with a new seal.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body assembly retaining studs.
    1. Tighten the studs to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
    2.  

  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner outlet resonator adapter stud.
    1. Tighten the studs to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    2.  

  8.  
  9. Connect the TP sensor harness connector.
  10.  
  11. Connect the IAC valve harness connector.
  12.  
  13. Install the accelerator control cable bracket using the fasteners.
    1. Tighten the fasteners to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
      WARNING
      Ensure the accelerator and the cruise control cables do not hold the throttle open.

  15. Install the accelerator cable.
  16.  
  17. Install the cruise control cable.
  18.  
  19. Install the air cleaner outlet resonator.
  20.  
  21. Install the engine cover.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
    WARNING
    The accelerator pedal should operate freely without binding between full and closed throttle.

  25. Use the following procedure in order to check the accelerator pedal operation.
    1. Depress the pedal to the floor.
    2.  
    3. Release the accelerator pedal.
    4.

4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L And 6.2L Engines

NOTE
The intake manifold, throttle body, fuel injection rail, and fuel injectors may be removed as an assembly. If not servicing the individual components, remove the manifold as a complete assembly.

  1. Remove the electrical wire harness connectors from the throttle body.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine coolant air bleed hose and clamp, if applicable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the throttle body nuts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Remove the throttle body gasket.
  10.  
  11. Discard the gasket.
  12.  
  13. Remove the throttle body studs, if required.

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body studs, if required.
    1. Tighten the throttle body studs to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
      NOTE
      DO NOT use the throttle body gasket again. Install a NEW gasket during assembly.

  3. Install the new throttle body gasket to the intake manifold.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body and nuts.
    1. Tighten the throttle body nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  7. Install the engine coolant air bleed hose and clamp to the throttle body, if applicable.
  8.  

8.1L Engine

WARNING
Handle the electronic throttle control components carefully. Use cleanliness in order to prevent damage. Do not drop the electronic throttle control components. Do not roughly handle the electronic throttle control components. Do not immerse the electronic throttle control components in cleaning solvents of any type.


NOTE
An 8 digit part identification number is stamped on the throttle body casting. Refer to this number if servicing, or part replacement is required.

  1. Remove the intake air resonator.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the throttle actuator motor electrical connector.
    NOTE
    Cover or plug any openings when servicing the throttle body in order to prevent possible contamination.

  4.  
  5. Remove the throttle body nuts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Remove and discard the throttle body gasket.

To install:

  1. Install a NEW throttle body gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body nuts.
    1. Tighten the nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    2.

  7. Connect the throttle actuator motor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the intake air resonator.
  10.  
  11. Connect a scan tool in order to test for proper throttle-opening and throttle-closing range.
  12.  
  13. Operate the accelerator pedal and monitor the throttle angles. The accelerator pedal should operate freely, without binding, between a closed throttle, and a wide open throttle (WOT).
