Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake rotor.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. On vehicles less than 8600GVW, release the speed sensor electrical connector clip from the brake hose bracket. Release the speed sensor harness clip from the brake hose bracket. Release the speed sensor harness clip from the steering knuckle bracket.
  14.  
  15. On vehicles greater than 8600GVW, release the speed sensor electrical connector clip from the frame. Release the speed sensor harness clip from the frame. Release the speed sensor harness clip from the upper control arm. Release the speed sensor harness clip from the brake hose bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the sensor bolt.
  18.  
  19. Remove the sensor from its mounting.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Position the sensor on its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the retaining bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    Using the GM diagnostic scan tool, or equivalent, refer to the on-screen reprogramming directions and perform the diagnostic system check procedure.

Rear

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Release the speed sensor harness clip from the frame rail.
  12.  
  13. On vehicles less than 8600GVW release the speed sensor harness clip from the rear axle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the sensor bolt.
  16.  
  17. Remove the sensor from its mounting.

To install:

  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
