Removal & Installation



4.3L Engines

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine skid plate, if equipped.

  9. Properly support the transmission assembly. Remove the transmission mount retaining bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the transmission crossmember.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the CPA retainers and the oxygen sensors.
  14.  
  15. Remove the CPA retainers.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oxygen sensors.
  18.  
  19. Remove the converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the catalytic converter assembly from the vehicle.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required. Be sure to use new exhaust manifold seals.

  1. Position the converter assembly to its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the converter to exhaust manifold retaining nuts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  
  9. Correct as required.
  10.  

4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engines

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine skid plate, if equipped.

  9. Properly support the transmission assembly. Remove the transmission mount retaining bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the transmission crossmember.

  13. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the CPA retainers and the oxygen sensors.
  14.  
  15. Remove the CPA retainers.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oxygen sensors.
  18.  
  19. Remove the converter assembly retaining nuts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the catalytic converter assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Position the converter assembly to its mounting.
