Removal & Installation



4.3L Engine

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Hold the engine oil pressure sensor fitting with a wrench.
    NOTE
    Observe the alignment of the oil pressure sensor fitting prior to removal.

  8.  
  9. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor using J 41712.

  10.  
  11. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor fitting, if necessary.

To install:

  1. Install the oil pressure sensor fitting, if removed.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the engine oil pressure sensor fitting to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Increase torque until the centerline of the fitting is fifty degrees from the centerline of the crankshaft.

  6.  
  7. Tighten the fitting until properly align.
  8.  
  9. Do not loosen the fitting. Do not tighten more than one turn.
  10.  
  11. Install the oil pressure sensor.
  12.  
  13. Hold the oil pressure sensor fitting with a wrench to prevent from turning.
  14.  
  15. Using J 41712 tighten the oil pressure sensor to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the electrical connector.
  18.  

4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engines

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake manifold.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the engine electrical harness connector from the sensor.
  8.  
  9. Using tool J41712 or equivalent, remove the sensor from its mounting.

  10.  

To install:

  1. Apply sealant to the threads of the oil pressure sensor.
  2.  
  3. Using J 41712 or equivalent, install the oil pressure sensor.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the oil pressure sensor to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  8.  

Testing



Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Check the oil level and correct as necessary. Turn the ignition switch on, but do not start the engine.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the sensor lead at the sensor. The gauge should read full scale.
  6.  
  7. Ground the connector. The gauge should read at the bottom of the scale.
  8.  
  9. If the gauge functions properly, replace the sensor.
  10.
