Removal & Installation



Bushing Style

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Install tool J36202.

  7. Increase the tension on the adjusting arm until the load is removed from the adjustment bolt and nut. Remove the bolt and nut from the crossmember.
  8.  
  9. Carefully remove the tool. This will allow the torsion bar to unload.
  10.  
  11. Remove the adjustment arm, by sliding the torsion bar forward.
  12.  
  13. Remove the crossmember bolt from the weld nut.
  14.  
  15. Remove the crossmember from the crossmember mount.
  16.  
  17. Remove the torsion bar from the crossmember.
    NOTE
    The left and right bars are different and are not interchangeable.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Torsion bars
     
    Torsion bar crossmember
     
    Torsion bar crossmember bolts. Tighten the bolt to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm)

  3. While supporting the adjustment arm, slide the torsion bar rearward until the torsion bar fully engages the adjustment arm. Install tool J36202 to the adjustment arm and the crossmember. Increase the tension on the adjustment arm in order to load the torsion bar.

  5. Remove the tool, releasing the tension on the torsion bar until the load is taken up by the adjustment bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the safety stands.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Measure the -Z- height.
    NOTE
    Point -A- is the contact surface. Point -B- is lower control arm reference point. Point -C- is steering knuckle reference point.

  13. Check and adjust the front end alignment, as required.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.

  5. Install tool J36202.

  7. Increase the tension on the adjusting arm until the load is removed from the adjustment bolt and nut. Remove the bolt and nut from the support assembly.
    NOTE
    Create a reference point for the adjustment bolt to the support. Count and record the number of times that is required to remove the adjustment bolt.

  8.  
  9. Carefully remove the tool. This will allow the torsion bar to unload.
  10.  
  11. Remove the adjustment arm, by sliding the torsion bar forward.
  12.  
  13. Remove the adjustment arm from the support assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper link mounting bolt and nut from the link.
  16.  
  17. Remove the torsion bar from the vehicle.
    NOTE
    The left and right bars are different and are not interchangeable.

  18.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Measure the -Z- height.
    NOTE
    Point -A- is the contact surface. Point -B- is lower control arm reference point. Point -C- is steering knuckle reference point.

  5. Check and adjust the front end alignment, as required.
