Removal & Installation



4.3L Engine

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Each injector is calibrated. When replacing the fuel injectors, be sure to replace it with the correct injector.



    Electrical connection
     
    Fuel feed and return hoses from the engine fuel pipes
     
    Upper manifold assembly

    Poppet nozzle out of the casting socket

    Lower hold-down plate and nuts

  9. While pulling the poppet nozzle tube downward, push with a small prytool down between the injector terminals and remove the injectors.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Lubricate the new injector O-ring seats with engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:
    CAUTION
    To reduce the risk of fire or injury ensure that the poppet nozzles are properly seated and locked in their casting sockets



    O-rings on the injector
     
    Fuel injector into the fuel meter body injector socket
     
    Lower hold-down plate and nuts. Torque the nuts to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
     
    Fuel meter body assembly into the intake manifold. Torque the fuel meter bracket retainer bolts to 88 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
     



    Fuel meter body into the bracket and lock all the tabs in place
     
    Poppet nozzles into the casting sockets
     
    Electrical connections
     
    New O-ring seals on the fuel return and feed hoses
     
    Fuel feed and return hoses. Torque the fuel pipe nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
     
    Negative battery cable

  5. Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds and then turn it OFF for 10 seconds. Again turn the ignition ON and check for leaks.

    Upper intake manifold

  7. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct as required.
  8.  

4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L Engines

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.

  7. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the engine wiring harness bracket.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the EVAP, alternator and MAP sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the CPA retainer.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coil main electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector from the electronic throttle control.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. Be sure to mark them for reassembly.
    NOTE
    Pull the CPA retainer on the connector up one click. Push the tab on the connector in. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  21. Remove the engine wiring harness clip from the alternator battery jumper cable and ignition coil bracket stud.
  22.  
  23. Remove the negative battery cable stud from the right cylinder head.
  24.  
  25. Remove the negative battery cable terminal and the engine wiring harness ground terminal from the cylinder head.
  26.  
  27. Remove the clip bolt from the alternator bracket.
  28.  
  29. Remove the PCV hose.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the chassis fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting from the fuel rail.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the EVAP fitting at the intake manifold.
  34.  
  35. Remove the EVAP tube and purge solenoid
  36.  
  37. Remove the fuel rail bolts. Remove the fuel rail assembly.
  38.  
  39. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail assembly.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Lubricate the new injector O-ring seats with engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Install the injectors on the fuel rail assembly.
  4.  
  5. Position the fuel rail assembly to its mounting on the engine.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the retaining bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct as required.
