Power Door Lock Diagnosis & Testing

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Check the fuses for the door lock circuit. Verify there is 12 volts at the fuse terminal. If voltage is not present, check the wiring.
  4.
  5. Remove the door trim panel of the affected door.
  6.
  7. Unplug the connector to the door lock actuator. Connect a test lamp across the terminals of the harness.
  8.
  9. Verify that the light illuminates briefly in both the lock and unlock positions of the switch.
    1. If it does not, there may be an open/high resistance or a short to ground in the wiring. If the wiring is OK, the IP fuse block is faulty.
    2.
    3. If it does illuminate and the lock actuator still does not work, the actuator is faulty.

Removal & Installation

Door Lock Motor

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
When performing service on or near the SRS components, or SRS wiring the SRS must be disabled. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SRS components. Serious injury can occur.

  2.
  3. Position the steering wheel so the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  4.
  5. Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

The SDM may have more than one fused power input. To ensure that there is no unwanted SRS deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SRS system repairs, remove all fuses supplying power to the SDM. With all SDM fuses removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator will illuminate. This is normal and does not indicate a SRS system malfunction.

  8.
  9. Locate and remove the fuses supplying power to the SDM.
  10.
  11. Wait one minute before working on the vehicle.
  12.
  13. Position the door glass as needed for service.
