Power Window Diagnosis & Testing



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Check the fuses for the window circuit. Verify there is 12 volts at the fuse terminal. If voltage is not present, check the wiring.
  4.  
  5. .Unplug the motor connector.
  6.  
  7. Install a 25 amp fused jumper wire between terminal A and 12 volts.
  8.  
  9. Momentarily install a jumper wire between terminal B and ground. The motor should operate; if not replace it.
  10.  
  11. Switch the jumper wires around and test again. The motor should operate; if not replace it.
  12.  
  13. If the motor still does not operate correctly when using a switch, then check the wiring for opens or shorts to ground.
  14.  
  15. If the wiring is ok but the motor still does not operate, the switch is faulty.

Removal & Installation



Front Window Motor And Regulator

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
    When performing service on or near the SRS components, or SRS wiring the SRS must be disabled. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SRS components. Serious injury can occur.

  3. Position the steering wheel so the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    The SDM may have more than one fused power input. To ensure that there is no unwanted SRS deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SRS system repairs, remove all fuses supplying power to the SDM. With all SDM fuses removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator will illuminate. This is normal and does not indicate a SRS system malfunction.

  9. Locate and remove the fuses supplying power to the SDM.
  10.  
  11. Wait one minute before working on the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Position the door glass as needed for service.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper extension trim panel.
  18.  
  19. Remove the door pull handle, if equipped.
  20.  
  21. Remove the door lock and window control switch.
  22.  
  23. Carefully pull the door panel from its mounting in order to disconnect all retaining clips and fasteners.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect all electrical connectors.
  26.  
  27. Remove the door panel.
    NOTE
    Be sure all electrical connectors are disconnected and all fasteners are removed from their fastening points before fully removing the door panel from its mounting.

  29. Remove the door water deflector.

  31. Support the window to prevent it from moving downwards.
  32.  
  33. Remove the bolts that secure the regulator to the window.
  34.  
  35. Unplug the harness from the window motor.
  36.  
  37. Remove the fasteners securing the regulator and motor assembly to the door, then remove it from the vehicle.
  38.  
  39. If necessary to replace the motor, remove the screws, then remove it from the regulator.
  40.  

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Position the motor on the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the fasteners to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Enable the SRS system. Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position. Install the fuses. Connect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. If the system is operating properly the AIR BAG indicator will flash.
  8.  
  9. Correct problems as required.
  10.  

Rear Window Motor And Regulator

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
    When performing service on or near the SRS components, or SRS wiring the SRS must be disabled. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SRS components. Serious injury can occur.

  5. Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE

  9. Locate and remove the fuses supplying power to the SDM.

  11. Wait one minute before working on the vehicle.

  13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  15. Remove the door lock and window control switch.
  16.  
  17. Lower the window.
  18.  
  19. Be sure that the locking rod is in the unlocked position.
  20.  
  21. Use a flat tipped tool to disengage the detent tab, then remove the knob by pulling upward.
  22.  
  23. Remove the rear side trim panel cover.
  24.  
  25. Remove the trim panel cover retainer.
  26.  
  27. Remove the inside handle bezel cover.
  28.  
  29. Remove the door trim panel bolt.
  30.  
  31. Carefully pull the door panel from its mounting in order to disconnect all retaining clips and fasteners.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect all electrical connectors.
  34.  
  35. Remove the door panel.
    NOTE
    Be sure all electrical connectors are disconnected and all fasteners are removed from their fastening points before fully removing the door panel from its mounting.

  37. Carefully detach the water shield from the door; this will be reused upon installation.

  39. Position the window in the up position. Support the window to prevent it from moving downwards.
  40.  
  41. Remove the bolts that secure the regulator to the window.
  42.  
  43. Unplug the harness from the window motor.
  44.  
  45. Remove the fasteners securing the regulator and motor assembly to the door, then remove it from the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. If necessary to replace the motor, remove the screws, then remove it from the regulator.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Position the motor on the regulator.

Window Switch
Front

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the switch bezel from its mounting.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the switch from its mounting.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Rear

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. On Extended Cab, using a small pry tool, carefully pry the switch from its mounting. Be careful not to damage the switch surfaces with the pry tool.
  6.  
  7. On Crew Cab, remove the switch retaining fasteners.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the switch from its mounting.
