Removal & Installation



Dual Rear Wheels

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Release the parking brake.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the hub and rotor assembly.
  10.  
  11. Mark the relationship of the hub to the rotor.
  12.  
  13. Place the hub and rotor assembly on a hydraulic press.
  14.  
  15. Press the wheel studs out of the hub and rotor assembly.

To install:

  1. Align the hub and the rotor, if applicable.
  2.  
  3. Press the wheel studs into the hub and rotor assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the hub and rotor assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. With the engine OFF , gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2 / 3 of its travel distance.
  12.  
  13. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  14.  
  15. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 5-6 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.

  17. Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the proper level with clean brake fluid.
  18.  

Except Dual Rear Wheels

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove 2 / 3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper bracket bolt.
  10.  
  11. Hang the caliper and the mounting bracket assembly from the suspension using mechanics wire.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake rotor retainers.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake rotor from its mounting.
  16.  
  17. Discard the rotor retainers.
  18.  
  19. If reinstalling the original rotor, mark the position of the brake rotor to the wheel stud.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Install the rotor.
  2.  
  3. Install the caliper. Tighten the retaining bolts to specification.
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  6.
