Clamp-In Style

Specific to:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2008


NOTE
Do not disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery until a period of at least one minute has passed after performing the following: turning the ignition to OFF, without pausing at ACC, and without applying the brake pedal. These steps are necessary to allow the brake system pressure relief procedure to occur. Failure to follow these steps may result in warning lamps and/or DTC-s being set pertaining to interruption of the pressure relief procedure. Other vehicle systems may also be affected by not allowing a one minute duration for vehicle power down.

To disconnect the negative battery cable, proceed as follows. Turn off all lamps and accessories. Turn the ignition OFF without pausing at ACC, remove the ignition key. Wait at least one minute before disconnecting the negative battery cable from the battery. Reposition the negative battery cable cover from the terminal. Rotate the lock lever counterclockwise in order to disconnect the cable from the battery.


NOTE
After performing the service procedure, to connect the negative battery cable, rotate the lock lever clockwise until an audible click is heard. Position the cover over the terminal.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
    NOTE
    When the tire is removed from the wheel, note the following in order to avoid tire pressure sensor damage upon tire dismounting.

  9. Place the sensor cap and valve on a dry clean surface after removal
  10.  
  11. The cap is aluminum and the valve is nickel plated, do not replace these components if they are made with other materials.
  12.  
  13. When separating the tire bead from the wheel, position the bead braking fixture ninety degrees from the valve stem.
  14.  
  15. Position the mounting/dismounting head so the tire iron, or pry bar, can be inserted slightly clockwise of the sensor body when prying the tire bead up and over the mounting/dismounting head.
  16.  
  17. Using the tire machine, rotate the tire and wheel assembly clockwise when transferring the tire bead to the outside of the wheel rim. Repeat for inner bead.
  18.  
  19. Remove the tire from the wheel, using the proper tire removal equipment.
    NOTE
    Follow the tire equipment manufacturer-s removal procedures in order to properly remove the tire from the wheel.


    NOTE
    When the tire is removed from the wheel, note the following in order to avoid tire pressure sensor damage upon tire dismounting. Place the sensor cap and valve on a dry clean surface after removal. The cap is aluminum and the valve is nickel plated, do not replace these components if they are made with other materials. When separating the tire bead from the wheel, position the bead braking fixture ninety degrees from the valve stem.   21. If any tire sealant is noted upon tire dismounting, remove all residual liquid sealant from the inside of the tire and wheel surfaces.

  23. Remove the tire pressure sensor nut.
  24.  
  25. Remove the tire pressure sensor.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Insert the sensor into the wheel hole with the air passage facing away from the wheel.
  2.  
  3. Install the sensor nut and position the sensor body parallel to the inside of the wheel surface while torquing to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
    NOTE
    Before installing the tire to the wheel, position the mounting/dismounting head 180 degrees from the valve stem. Position the bead transition area 45 degrees counterclockwise of the valve stem. Using the tire machine, rotate the tire and wheel assembly clockwise when transferring the tire bead to the inside of the wheel rim. Repeat for the outer bead.

  5. Install the tire on the wheel.
    NOTE
    The new tire pressure sensor is shipped in the OFF mode. In this mode the sensor unique identification code cannot be learned into the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) memory. The sensor must be taken out of OFF mode by spinning the tire and wheel assembly above twenty miles per hour for about ten seconds. This will close the sensors internal roll switch.

  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Using the GM diagnostic scan tool (J-46079) or aftermarket equivalent perform the tire sensor learn procedure. Be sure to follow the scan tool manufacturer-s directions.

Snap-In Style

NOTE

  21. Remove the Torx® screw from the tire pressure sensor and pull it straight off the tire pressure valve stem.

  23. Remove the tire pressure valve stem by pulling it thru the rim.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.


NOTE
When servicing the tire pressure sensor always use a new Schrader tire pressure monitor and a new Torx® head screw during installation.

  1. Assemble the tire pressure sensor. Tighten the retaining screw to 11.5 inch lbs. (1.3 Nm).

  3. Install the sensor to the wheel.
    NOTE
    The sensor is shipped in the OFF mode. However the sensor no longer has to be spun to remove it from the OFF mode. The sensor will exit the OFF mode when the tire is inflated.

  5. Install the tire on the wheel.
    NOTE
    Use approved tire mounting lubricant. Do not use silicon or corrosive base compounds to lubricate the tire bead and wheel rim, as these compounds can cause tire or rim deterioration.

  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Using the GM diagnostic scan tool (J-46079) or aftermarket equivalent perform the tire sensor learn procedure. Be sure to follow the scan tool manufacturer-s directions.

Tire Pressure Sensor Learn Procedure




NOTE
Using the GM diagnostic scan tool (J-46079), or equivalent, refer to the manufacturer-s directions and perform the tire pressure sensor learn procedure.

  1. Using the scan tool, initiate the TPM learn mode. A double horn chirp will sound indicating the learn mode has been enabled. The left front turn signal will also be illuminated.
  2.  
  3. Starting with the left front tire, activate the sensor by holding the antenna of the tool, aimed upward, against the tire sidewall close to the wheel rim at the valve stem location.
  4.  
  5. Press and release the activate button and wait for a horn chirp.
  6.  
  7. Once the horn chirp has sounded, the sensor information is learned and the turn signal in the next location to be learned will illuminate.
  8.  
  9. After the horn chirp has sounded and the right front turn signal is illuminated, repeat the above step for the remaining three sensors in the following order: right front, right rear and left rear.
  10.  
  11. When the left rear sensor has been learned and a double horn chirp has sounded, the learn process is complete and the DCRL exists in learn mode.
  12.  
  13. With the ignition OFF, adjust the tire pressure in all four tires.
