Power Door Locks

Diagnosis & Testing

Power door lock switch malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the inoperative door lock switch.
  2.
  3. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal no. A and ground.
    1. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
    2.

  4.
  5. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool door lock switch parameter is IDLE.
    1. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal no. C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the Body Control Module (BCM).
    2.

  6.
  7. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal no. C and the ground circuit terminal no. A. Verify the scan tool door lock switch parameter is LOCK.
    1. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM
    2.

  8.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate door lock switch.
  10.

Power door lock malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the C4 harness connector at the BCM.
  2.
  3. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal no. E12 and ground.
    1. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
    2.

  4.
  5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the inoperative door lock actuator harness connector.
  6.
  7. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the door lock actuator LOCK control circuit and ground.
    1. If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
    2.

  8.
  9. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the door lock actuator UNLOCK control circuit and ground.
  10.
  11. Connect a test lamp between the inoperative door lock actuator lock and unlock control circuits at the inoperative door lock actuator harness connector.
  12.
  13. Ignition ON, perform the Door LOCK and UNLOCK test with a scan tool. The test lamp should illuminate as the lock and unlock test is performed.
    1. If the test lamp remains OFF during either of the commands and the circuit fuse is good, test for a short to ground on either control circuit. If the circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
    2.
    3. If the test lamp is always OFF and the circuit fuse is open, test the control circuits for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
    4.

  14.
  15. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door lock actuator.
