Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the adjustment link retaining nut.
  8.  
  9. Using the J-42188-B Ball Joint Separator, separate the adjustment link ball stud from the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Separate the rear adjustment link from the suspension knuckle. DO NOT loosen the adjustment jamb nut.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper shock module mounting nuts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower shock module mounting nuts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lower shock module mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the shock module.
    NOTE
    Remove the strut toward the rear of the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the shock module.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower shock module mounting bolt sand nuts. Tighten the nuts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the upper shock module mounting nuts and tighten to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the rear adjustment link and tighten the retaining nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). plus an additional 150°
  8.  
  9. Install tire and wheel.
  10.  
  11. Lower vehicle.
  12.  

Testing & Inspection



  1. Test drive vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Inspect each shock absorber for external fluid leakage.
  4.  
  5. Use your hands in order to lift up and push down each corner of the vehicle 3 times.
  6.  
  7. Remove your hands from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Replace any shock that exceeds more than two bounces.
  10.
