Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper adapter. For additional information, refer to the following section, "Brake Caliper Adapter.-
  6.  
  7. Remove the hub/bearing. For additional information, refer to the following section, "Wheel Bearings, Removal & Installation.-
  8.  
  9. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using Special Tool C-3894-A.
  10.  
  11. In order to take the load off the strut, raise the lower control arm approximately 10 mm using a suitable jack.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the knuckle by pulling straight out.
  14.  
  15. Remove the strut at the knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle using Special Tool 9282.
  18.  
  19. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the steering knuckle on the lower ball joint stud. Tighten the ball joint nut to 206 ft. lbs. (280 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the strut to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to 136 ft. lbs. (185 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the speed sensor by pushing the sensor all the way into the knuckle and the sensor will self adjust when the wheel is turned.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel hub/bearing assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake caliper adapter with brake caliper.
  12.  
  13. Install the front wheels.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Check and adjust the alignment as necessary.
  18.  

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the outer tie rod end nut.
  6.  
  7. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using Special Tool 9360.
  8.  
  9. Remove the tie rod end shield.
