Disarming the System

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Wait more than 20 seconds before starting work.

NOTE
Be sure to properly disconnect and connect the air bag connector.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting the battery cable before doing any further work. The SRS system is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy the air bag for a short time, even after the battery has been disconnected. Serious injury may result from unintended air bag deployment, if work is done on the SRS system immediately after the battery cable is disconnected.

  5. Remove the lower lid from the steering column and disconnect the harness between the air bag module and spiral cable.

  1. Be sure to position the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Tape the battery cable for added protection.
  4.  
  5. Wait more than 20 seconds before starting work.
