Operation



The sensor provides a signal to the ECM for incoming air temperature. This information is used to adjust the injector pulse width and in turn the air/fuel ratio.

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. On the DOHC engine, torque the retaining screw to 0.8 ft. lbs.
  4.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the sensor from its mounting.

Testing



  1. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  2.  
  3. Using the Subaru scan tool, read the sensor signal data. If the measured value is within 167-203 degrees F, replace the sensor.
  4.  

  1. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  2.  
  3. Using the Subaru scan tool, read the sensor signal data.
  4.  
  5. On all engines except 2.5L DOHC engine, if the measured value is less than -40 degrees F, replace the sensor.
  6.  
  7. On the 2.5L DOHC engine, if the measured value is less than -33 degrees F, replace the sensor.
  8.  

2.5L DOHC Engine
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2.  
  3. Measure the resistance of the harness between the sensor and engine ground.
  4.  
  5. If measured value is less than 5 ohms, replace the sensor.
  6.  

Except 2.5L DOHC Engine
  1. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  2.  
  3. Using the Subaru scan tool, read the sensor signal data.
  4.  
  5. If the measured value is less than -40 degrees F, replace the sensor.
  6.
