Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Properly discharge the A/C system refrigerant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the necessary components in order to gain access to the compressor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  12.  
  13. Remove the compressor drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the compressor retaining bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    CAUTION
    Be sure to apply compressor oil to the O-rings before installing the hoses.

  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Charge the A/C system.
  6.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Discharge the A/C system refrigerant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the low- and high-pressure hoses from the compressor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt covers.
  8.  
  9. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the alternator wiring harness.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the compressor wiring harness from the body harness.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts which secure the lower compressor mounting bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the bolt which secures the compressor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the compressor from the bracket.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor on the bracket. Install the bracket onto the engine.
  2.  
  3. Connect the compressor and alternator wiring harnesses.
  4.  
  5. Install the accessory drive belts. Check the drive belt tension and adjust as necessary.
  6.  
  7. Install the high- and low-pressure hoses.
    CAUTION
    Be sure to apply compressor oil to the O-rings before installing the hoses.

  8.  
  9. Install the accessory drive belt cover.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Charge the A/C system.
  14.

  1. Conduct the compressor oil return operation as follows:
    1. Turn the engine ON and increase the engine to 1500 RPM.
    2.  
    3. Turn the A/C Switch ON .
    4.  
    5. Turn the temperature control switch to MAX COOL .
    6.  
    7. Put it in the RECIRC position.
    8.  
    9. Allow this to run for 10 minutes.

  3. After 10 minutes, turn the A/C switch to OFF and stop the engine.
  4.  
  5. Discharge the A/C system refrigerant.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air intake assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the low- and high-pressure hoses from the compressor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the alternator.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the A/C compressor wiring harness.
  18.  
  19. Remove the compressor bracket mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the compressor from the bracket.
  22.  
  23. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
    NOTE
    Be sure to apply compressor oil to the new O-rings before installing the hoses.

  24.  
  25. Charge the A/C system refrigerant.
  26.
