Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Connect the positive and negative battery terminals to the mirror terminals shown in the illustration.

Removal & Installation
Motor
1997

NOTE
On SVX and Legacy models, it will be necessary to remove the door trim panel to gain access to the electrical connection.

Remove door corner finisher panel and the mirror body attaching screws, and then extract the mirror body. Disconnect the electrical wiring. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. On vehicles without power windows, remove the window handle by removing the retaining clip. Slide a flat bladed tool between the handle and the door panel and press inward on the retainer spring clip.
  4.  
  5. Use a suitable prying tool and remove the remote handle cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove screws which hold gusset cover, and detach cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove screws which hold pull handle and other screws located further inside. On models with power windows, the window switches come off with the door panels.
  10.  
  11. Remove the clip attached to trim panel using a trim clip puller tool. Then remove the trim panel. The plastic sealing cover can be removed from the door at this time, if needed.
    NOTE
    When removing the trim panel, use care not to damage the panel or to tear it with the tools.

  13. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the mirror retaining bolt.
  16.  
  17. Install the trim panel in the reverse order of removal. Be sure that the panel is fully seated at all clips.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inner remote cap.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws that retain the trim panel to the door. You will have to lift the door pocket mat to get at 2 of the screws.
  6.  
  7. Carefully pry around the perimeter of the door and loosen the panel clips from the door.
  8.  
  9. As the door panel is coming off, disconnect the electrical leads from the panel.
    NOTE
    When removing the trim panel, use care not to damage the panel or to tear it with the tools.

  10.  
  11. Remove the panel from the door.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the mirror retaining bolt.
  16.  
  17. Install the panel in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  18.  
  19. Be sure to check the operation of all controls after installing the panel.
  20.  

1998-99 Legacy
  1. Remove the inside gusset cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the inside door handle switch cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front door trim piece.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the mirror wiring harness.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mirror mounting bolts and mirror assembly.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  12.  

2002-05 Impreza
  1. Pull up the inner latch cover toward you to remove the upper hook. Pull it to remove the lower hook. Remove the inner latch cover.
  2.  
  3. Using a suitable pry tool, remove the power window switch assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw in the center of the trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Using a suitable trim panel removal tool, remove the clips of the trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mirror gusset cover.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the mirror wiring harness.
  12.  
  13. Remove the mounting screws and remove the mirror assembly.
  14.  
  15. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  16.  

2002-05 Outback And Legacy
  1. Pull up the inner latch cover toward you to remove the upper hook. Pull it to remove the lower hook. Remove the inner latch cover.

  3. Using a suitable pry tool, remove the power window switch assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness.

Baja

  7. Using a suitable trim panel removal tool, remove the clips of the trim panel.

  9. Pull down the sealing cover and disconnect the mirror wiring harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mounting screws and remove the mirror assembly.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Switch

  1. Pry the mirror switch from the instrument panel using a suitable pry tool.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the mirror switch.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

2002-04 Impreza
  1. Remove the center console cover.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the mirror switch wiring harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mirror switch.

2002-04 Outback & Legacy
  1. Using a suitable pry tool, remove the power window switch assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness.

  1. Remove the instrument panel lower cover.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness.

  5. Remove the mirror switch from the lower instrument panel cover.

Baja
  1. Using a suitable pry tool, remove the power window switch assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness.
  2.  
  3. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
