Throttle Body

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the coolant from the radiator to a level below the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air intake duct from the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with cruise control, disconnect the cable from the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the idle air control solenoid and throttle position sensor harnesses.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  14.  
  15. Remove the four throttle body mounting bolts and remove the throttle body from the collector chamber.
  16.  
  17. Clean all gasket material from both mating surfaces.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Using a new gasket, install the throttle body to the collector. Tighten the mounting bolts to 14-20 ft. lbs. (19-26 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Using new clamps, connect the coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Connect the throttle position sensor and the air idle control solenoid harnesses.
  6.  
  7. Connect the accelerator cable to the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. If equipped with cruise control, connect the cable to the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Install the air intake duct.
  12.  
  13. Refill the radiator with coolant.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable and bleed the cooling system.

2.0L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intercooler.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the throttle position sensor, idle air control solenoid valve and pressure sensor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the throttle body and gasket.

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body with a new gasket. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  4.  

2.2L & 2.5L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the cruise control cable, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the idle air control solenoid valve and air bypass hose, except 1998-99 models
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, 2004-05 models
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  16.  
  17. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the throttle body and gasket.

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body with a new gasket. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  4.  

2.5L Turbo Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the intercooler.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the throttle position sensor and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the throttle body and gasket.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body with a new gasket. Tighten the mounting bolts to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  4.  

3.0L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the cruise control cable, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the intake manifold pressure sensor and idle air control solenoid valve.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the air bypass hose from the idle air control solenoid valve.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  16.  
  17. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the throttle body and gasket.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body with a new gasket. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  2.  
  3. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
