NOTE
Before adjusting the cable, adjust the brake shoes, if so equipped.

  1. Pull the parking brake lever up. Release it and repeat several times.
  2.  
  3. It should take the specified number of notches to apply the parking brake.

    Legacy and Impreza: 7-8 notches
     
    SVX: 6-7 notches
     

  4.  
  5. Loosen the locknut on the turnbuckle and adjust the length of the cable, so the parking brake is applied within specification.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the locknut and recheck operation of the parking brake lever.
  8.  

  1. Adjust parking brake cable by turning the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever stroke is set at 7 to 8 notches with operating force of 44 lbs. (196 N).
  2.  
  3. Tighten lock nut.
