  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Using a siphon, drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  4.
  5. Loosen, but do not remove the power steering pump pulley nut. Loosen the pulley drive belts.
  6.
  7. Remove the power steering pump pulley nut and the pulley.
  8.
  9. Disconnect and plug the C pressure hose from the oil pump. Disconnect the D pressure hose from the oil tank.
    NOTE
To minimize the fluid loss from the reservoir, remove both bolts while the reservoir is pressed against the oil pump, then quickly remove the reservoir. It is a good idea to remove the pump and the reservoir as a unit, then separate the reservoir from the pump on a bench.

  10.
  11. Remove the power steering pump to bracket bolts. Remove the pump from the vehicle.
  12.
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Secure all components in this order.

Power steering pump to bracket bolts-22-36 ft. lbs. (29-49 Nm)

    Reservoir stay-to-bracket bolts-14-17 ft. lbs. (20-24 Nm)

    Reservoir-to-pump bolts-14-22 ft. lbs. (20-29 Nm)

    Pulley nut-to-pump nut-31-46 ft. lbs. (42-62 Nm)

  14.
  15. Adjust the power steering belt, refill the reservoir then bleed the power steering system.
  16.

2.2L Engine

  1. Remove ground cable from battery.
  2.
  3. Drain the working fluid about 0.3 (0.3 US qt, 0.3 Imp qt) from oil tank.
  4.
  5. Remove pulley belt cover bracket.
  6.
  7. Loosen oil pump pulley nut, then remove bolts which secure alternator.
  8.
  9. Loosen pulley belt(s).
  10.
  11. Remove the nut and detach oil pump pulley.
  12.
  13. Disconnect pipe C from oil pump. Disconnect pipe D from oil tank.
  14.
  15. Remove three bolts from the front side of oil pump and detach the pump.
  16.
  17. Remove three bolts from the lower side of bracket and detach the bracket.
  18.
  19. Place oil pump in a vise, remove two bolts from the upper side of oil tank and detach oil tank.
