Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Floor mat on wagon models
     
    Trunk mat on sedan models
     
    Roll up the trunk side trim on sedan models
     
    Bolt attaching the shock absorber to the rear arm
     

  4.  
  5. Use a jack to support the rear suspension.

    Shock absorber-to-body upper retainers and the shock
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Shock absorber and the shock-to-body using NEW upper retainers and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Place the vehicle jack (the one supplied with the vehicle) upside down and place it between the link rear and the sub-frame. Place a cloth between the jack and areas it is touching to prevent damage to the link rear or sub-frame Adjust the jack so the shock is aligned with the rear are at the correct holes and install the lower shock bolts.
  4.  
  5. Support the shock/rear rear arm horizontally with a jack and tighten the nuts and bolts to 118 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Floor mat on wagon models
     
    Trunk side trim on sedan models
     
    Trunk mat on sedan models
     
    Rear wheels
     

  8.  
  9. Inspect and adjust the wheel alignment.
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear seat cushion and backrest on sedan models
     
    Strut cap from the quarter trim on wagon models
     
    Rear wheels
     
    Brake hose clip from the strut
     
    Bolts attaching the shock absorber to housing
     

  4.  
  5. Use a jack to support the rear suspension.

    Shock absorber-to-body upper retainers and the shock
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Shock absorber and the shock-to-body using NEW upper retainers and tighten to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
     
    Bolts attaching the shock absorber to housing and tighten to 162 ft. lbs. (220 Nm)
     
    Brake hose clip to the strut
     
    Rear wheels
     
    Floor mat on wagon models
     
    Rear seat cushion and backrest on sedan models
     
    Strut cap to the quarter trim on wagon models
     

  2.  
  3. Inspect and adjust the wheel alignment.
  4.
