REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Justy

The Justy was never factory equipped with air conditioning. A/C on these models was a dealer installed option.

Several different companies offered A/C parts for this model. It is recommended that any A/C service on the Justy be referred to a local dealer.

  1. Remove the spare tire from the engine compartment.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner, if removing a Hitachi compressor.
  6.  
  7. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect both of the refrigerant lines from the compressor and plug the openings. Remove the O-rings and discard.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts from the alternator and compressor belt cover and remove the cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the alternator drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the lock bolt on the idler pulley and remove the compressor belt.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the alternator harness from the alternator.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the compressor wire harness.
  20.  
  21. On some models, remove the compressor-to-lower bracket mounting bolts, then remove the lower bracket. Remove the compressor-to-upper bracket mounting bolts, then remove the compressor from the engine.
  22.  
  23. On other models, remove the compressor-to-bracket bolts, then remove the compressor from the engine.
  24.  

To install:
  1. Install the compressor in position on the engine. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 14-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the electrical leads to the compressor and alternator.
  4.  
  5. Apply a coating of compressor oil to the new O-rings, and install them on the refrigerant lines, then connect the lines to the compressor. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (10-20 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner, if removed.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Properly evacuate and charge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  10.  
  11. Install the spare tire.
  12.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect both of the refrigerant lines from the compressor and plug the openings. Remove the O-rings and discard.
  6.  
  7. Remove the alternator drive belt and compressor belt.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the compressor harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the compressor-to-bracket bolts, then remove the compressor from the engine.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the compressor in position on the engine. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 25-33 ft. lbs. (34-44 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the electrical leads to the compressor.
  4.  
  5. Install the compressor and alternator belts. Adjust to the proper tension.
  6.  
  7. Apply a coating of compressor oil to the new O-rings, and install them on the refrigerant lines, then connect the lines to the compressor. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (10-20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Properly evacuate and charge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  10.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect both of the refrigerant lines from the compressor and plug the openings. Remove the O-rings and discard.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt cover, then remove the alternator drive belt and compressor belts.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the compressor and alternator harness harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the compressor-to-bracket bolts, then remove the compressor from the engine.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the compressor in position on the engine. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 17-31 ft. lbs. (23-42 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the electrical leads to the compressor.
  4.  
  5. Install the compressor and alternator belts. Adjust to the proper tension. Install the drive belt cover.
  6.  
  7. Apply a coating of compressor oil to the new O-rings, and install them on the refrigerant lines, then connect the lines to the compressor. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (10-20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Properly evacuate and charge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  5. Disconnect both of the refrigerant lines from the compressor and plug the openings. Remove the O-rings and discard.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt cover, the n remove the alternator drive belt and compressor belts.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the compressor and alternator harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the compressor-to-bracket bolts, then remove the compressor from the engine.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the compressor in position on the engine. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 23-29 ft. lbs. (31-39 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the electrical leads to the compressor.
  4.  
  5. Install the compressor and alternator belts. Adjust to the proper tension. Install the drive belt cover.
  6.  
  7. Apply a coating of compressor oil to the new O-rings, and install them on the refrigerant lines, then connect the lines to the compressor. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (10-20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Properly evacuate and charge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
