REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Justy

Consult an authorized Subaru dealer for Justy A/C service. Because the air conditioner on the Justy is dealer installed as opposed to factory installed, there are several different A/C systems in these vehicles, each requiring a different removal and installation technique.

Sedan, Coupe, Loyale, Wagon and Brat

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front grille assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove and discard the O-rings.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper and lower condenser mounting bolts, then pull the condenser out of the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the condenser in position and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 4-7 ft. lbs. (5-10 Nm)
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coat of refrigerant oil to the new O-rings, and connect the refrigerant lines to the condenser. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (9-20 Nm) for right-hand thread lines, 11-18 ft. lbs. (14-23 Nm) for left-hand thread lines.
  4.  
  5. Install the front grille.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and properly fill the refrigerant system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with and air guide, remove it.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove and discard the O-rings.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts, then pull out the condenser from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the condenser in position and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 11-18 ft. lbs. (14-23 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coat of refrigerant oil to the new O-rings, and connect the refrigerant lines to the condenser. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (9-20 Nm) for right-hand thread lines, 11-18 ft. lbs. (14-23 Nm) for left-hand thread lines.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable and properly fill the refrigerant system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.

Legacy and Impreza

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radiator bracket.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove and discard the O-rings.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts, then pull out the condenser from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the condenser in position and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 4-6 ft. lbs. (5-8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coat of refrigerant oil to the new O-rings, and connect the refrigerant lines to the condenser. Tighten the lines to 7-14 ft. lbs. (9-20 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the radiator support.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and properly fill the refrigerant system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.

SVX

The vehicle will have to be raised to remove the 2 lower condenser mounting bolts.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Properly discharge the air conditioning system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front grille.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with an air guide, remove it.
  8.  
  9. Remove the belt cover and upper radiator bracket.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect and plug the refrigerant lines from the condenser. Remove and discard the O-rings.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator and condenser fans.
  14.  
  15. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands, and remove the under cover, remove the lower condenser mounting bolts. Lower the vehicle. Remove the condenser by pushing the radiator back to the engine and pulling it out.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Install the condenser in position and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and install the lower bolts and the under cover.
  4.  
  5. Apply a light coat of refrigerant oil to the new O-rings and connect the refrigerant lines to the condenser. Tighten the lines to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the upper radiator bracket, radiator and condenser fans, and belt cover.
  8.  
  9. Install the front grille.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and properly fill the refrigerant system using an approved recovery/recycling machine.
