  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with a manual transaxle, open the hood and disconnect the clutch cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retainer nuts securing the pedal bracket and brake booster to the inside of the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column-to-pedal bracket upper attaching bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the stop light switch and harness.
  10.  
  11. Detach the clutch cable from the clutch pedal assembly.
  12.  
  13. Separate the brake pedal from the booster pushrod.
  14.  
  15. Remove the pedal assembly from the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. If equipped with a manual transaxle, remove the clutch switch and bracket assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the circlip, then remove the clutch pedal.
  20.  
  21. Pull the shaft out and remove the brake pedal and bushings.
  22.  
  23. Remove the stop light switch.
  24.  

To install:
  1. Temporarily install the stop light switch to the pedal bracket.
  2.  
  3. Mount the bushing in the clutch and brake pedal assemblies. Apply grease to the shaft, then insert it into the bracket and mount the brake pedal, washer, if equipped, bushing and return spring.
  4.  
  5. Pass the shaft through the bracket assembly so that the shaft end becomes visible from the opposite end. Align the shaft end with the hole in the attaching plate, and fully insert the shaft into the bracket.
  6.  
  7. If equipped, mount the clutch pedal the the shaft and secure in place with the retainer clip.
  8.  
  9. Install the pedal bracket assembly in the vehicle, and secure in place, along with the brake booster, with retainer nuts, tightened snugly.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with a manual transaxle, connect the clutch cable. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

Coupe, Sedan, Wagon and Brat

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the carburetor/throttle body assembly.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with a manual transaxle, detach the clutch cable from the release fork, clamp on the transaxle case and toe board.
  6.  
  7. Detach the trim panel from below the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Detach the pushrod from the brake pedal.
  10.  
  11. Tag and disconnect the stop light switch and any other electrical harnesses attached to the pedal cluster assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the retainer nuts securing the pedal bracket and brake booster to the inside of the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering column-to-pedal bracket upper attaching bolt.
  16.  
  17. Detach the accelerator pedal return spring, the n remove the accelerator pedal assembly.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the brake pedal return spring.
  20.  
  21. Remove the circlip from the pedal shaft.
  22.  
  23. Pull the shaft out and remove the brake and, if equipped, clutch pedal and bushings.
  24.  
  25. Remove the stop light switch.
  26.  

To install:
  1. Install the stop light switch to the pedal bracket.
  2.  
  3. Mount the bushing in the clutch and brake pedal assemblies. Apply grease to the shaft, then insert it into the bracket and mount the brake pedal, washer, if equipped, bushing and return springs.
  4.  
  5. Apply grease to the accelerator pedal, and install onto the pedal bracket assembly.
  6.  
  7. Pass the shaft through the bracket assembly so that the shaft end becomes visible from the opposite end. Align the shaft end with the hole in the attaching plate, and fully insert the shaft into the bracket.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, mount the clutch pedal the shaft and secure in place with the retainer clip.
  10.  
  11. Install the pedal bracket assembly in the vehicle, and secure in place, along with the brake booster, with retainer nuts, tightened snugly.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with a manual transaxle, connect the clutch cable. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  

XT and XT6

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the carburetor/throttle body assembly.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with a manual transaxle, detach the clutch cable from the release fork, clamp on the transaxle case and toe board.
  6.  
  7. Detach the trim panel from below the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Detach the pushrod from the brake pedal.
  10.

  13. Remove the retainer nuts securing the pedal bracket and brake booster to the inside of the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering column-to-pedal bracket upper attaching bolt.
  16.  
  17. Detach the accelerator pedal return spring, the n remove the accelerator pedal assembly.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the brake pedal return spring.
  20.  
  21. Remove the circlip from the pedal shaft.
  22.  
  23. Pull the shaft out and remove the brake and, if equipped, clutch pedal and bushings.
  24.  
  25. Remove the stop light switch.
  26.  

To install:
  1. Install the stop light switch to the pedal bracket.
  2.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retainer bolt securing the brake pedal assembly to the brake booster operating rod.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retainer bolts securing the brake pedal assembly to the accelerator pedal assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the stop light switch harness.
  8.  
  9. Remove the circlip from the pedal shaft.
  10.  
  11. Pull the shaft out and remove the brake and, if equipped, clutch pedal and bushings.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the stop light switch to the pedal bracket.
  2.  
  3. Mount the bushing in the clutch and brake pedal assemblies. Apply grease to the shaft, then insert it into the bracket and mount the brake pedal, washer, if equipped, bushing and return springs.
  4.  
  5. If equipped, mount the clutch pedal the shaft and secure in place with the retainer clip.
  6.  
  7. Install the brake pedal bracket assembly to the accelerator pedal assembly using the retainer bolts. Tighten the bolts to 17-27 ft. lbs. (23-36 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Position the to the brake booster operating rod, and secure with retainer nuts, tightened to 17-27 ft. lbs. (23-36 Nm).
  10.  
  11. If equipped with a manual transaxle, connect the clutch cable. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

SVX

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel, followed by the steering shaft assembly. Refer to the procedure in Suspension & Steering of this repair guide.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front driver seat from the vehicle. Refer to Body & Trim for removal and installation steps.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the stop light switch harness.
  8.  
  9. Remove the snap pin which connects the brake pedal and operating rod.
  10.  

The operating rod length is preset at the factory. Do not attempt to loosen the locknut.

  1. Remove the retainer bolts securing the pedal assembly in place. Remove the bracket and pedal assembly from the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the circlip from the pedal shaft.
  4.  
  5. Pull the shaft out and remove the brake and, if equipped, clutch pedal and bushings.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the stop light switch to the pedal bracket.
  2.  
  3. Mount the bushing in the clutch and brake pedal assemblies. Apply grease to the shaft, then insert it into the bracket and mount the brake pedal, washer, if equipped, bushing and return springs.
  4.  
  5. Position the pedal assembly in the vehicle, and secure in place with the retainer bolts. Tighten the bolts to 9-17 ft. lbs. (12-22 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the brake pedal to the operating rod using the snap pin to secure.
  8.  
  9. Install the driver seat, followed by the steering shaft and wheel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
