Proportioning Valve

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. From under the hood, disconnect and cap the six brake pipes from the proportioning valve.
  4.  
  5. Remove the proportioning valve mounting bolts and remove the proportioning valve.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the proportioning valve on the strut tower and install the mounting bolts and tighten to 4 ft. lbs. (6 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the brake pipes to the proportioning valve and tighten the fittings to 12 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Bleed the brake system.
  8.  

Coupe, Sedan, XT, Loyale, Wagon and Brat

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and cap the four brake lines from the proportioning valve.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mounting bolt and remove the proportioning valve from the bracket.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the proportioning valve on the bracket and install the mounting bolt. Tighten the mounting bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the brake lines to the proportioning valve and tighten the fittings to 11 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Top off the master cylinder.
  10.

Do not disassemble the proportioning valve, the valve must be replaced as an assembly.

  1. Remove the 4 lines from the proportioning valve. Cap each brake line to prevent debris from entering.
  2.  
  3. Remove the proportioning valve from the bracket.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Install the proportioning valve to the bracket, and tighten the retainer hardware snugly.
  2.  
  3. Connect the brake lines to the proportioning valve, and tighten the fittings to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the hydraulic brake system and check the fittings for leaks.
  6.

  1. Remove the washer cover.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the electrical harness from the washer motor.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the washer pipe from the body.
  6.  
  7. Remove the washer tank.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and cap the brake pipes from the proportioning valve.
  10.  
  11. Remove the proportioning valve mounting bolts, then remove the proportioning valve.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the proportioning valve and mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the brake pipes to the proportioning valve. Tighten the fittings to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the washer tank.
  6.  
  7. Connect the washer pipe to the body.
  8.  
  9. Connect the electrical harness to the washer motor.
  10.  
  11. Install the washer cover.
  12.  
  13. Bleed the brake system.
  14.
