Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor

OPERATION



Located on the air cleaner housing, the IAT sensor varies resistance as air temperature changes.

TESTING



  1. Switch the ignition OFF .
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the IAT sensor harness.
  4.  
  5. Measure the resistance across the IAT sensor terminals.
  6.  
  7. At 68°F (20°C), the resistance should be 2-3 kilo-ohms.
  8.  
  9. At 176°F (80°C), the resistance should be 0.27-0.37 kilo-ohms.
  10.  
  11. Replace the IAT sensor if the resistance readings are out of range.
  12.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the IAT sensor harness.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable wrench, loosen and remove the sensor from the side of the air cleaner housing.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Apply a layer of Teflon® tape around the threads of the sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install the sensor, and tighten snugly.
  4.  
  5. Connect the sensor harness.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.
