REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1.2L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Tag and disconnect the fan motor lead wire.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cooling fan frame mounting bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cooling fan assembly from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan motor-to-frame mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fan blade assembly mounting nut, then remove the fan blade from the motor.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the fan blade to the motor and secure with the mounting nut. Tighten the mounting nut to 4 ft. lbs. (5 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the fan motor to the motor frame and secure with the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 4 ft. lbs. (5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the fan assembly to the radiator and install the 3 fan motor frame-to-radiator support. Tighten the bolts to 4 ft. lbs. (5 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the electrical lead wire to the fan motor.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for correct fan operation.
  12.  

1.6L, 1.8L and 2.7L Engines
WITHOUT A/C
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the fan motor electrical connector at the motor assembly, then remove the harness from the bracket on the fan frame.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fan motor frame mounting bolts, then remove the frame assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fan motor-to-frame mounting bolts and remove the fan motor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan blade mounting nut, then remove the blade from the fan motor.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the fan blade on the motor and install the mounting nut. Tighten the nut to 3 ft. lbs. (4 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the motor onto the frame using the mounting nuts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the fan assembly into the vehicle with the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Fasten the electrical connector to the cooling fan and route the harness through the bracket on the frame.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for proper fan operation.
  12.  

WITH A/C
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Loosen, but do not remove the fan clutch mounting nuts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fan shroud mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan clutch assembly and shroud by removing the clutch mounting nuts loosened earlier. Remove the fan and shroud together.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fan nuts to separate the fan blade and clutch assembly.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the fan blade to the clutch using the mounting nuts. Tighten the nuts to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the fan assembly and shroud into the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Loosely install the fan assembly mounting nuts.
  6.  
  7. Install the fan shroud mounting bolts. Tighten the nuts to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the accessory drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the fan assembly mounting nuts. Tighten the nuts to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Start the engine and check for proper fan operation.
  16.  

2.2L and 2.5L Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the fan motor electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the coolant reservoir tank.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 4 fan shroud bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan blade retainer nut, then remove the motor retainer nuts to separate the motor from the shroud.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the fan motor in the shroud, and secure in place with the retainer nuts. Tighten the nuts to 2-3 ft. lbs. (3-4 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the fan blade to the motor and tighten the retainer nut to 1-2 ft. lbs. (1-3 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the fan assembly and tighten the mounting bolts to 2-3 ft. lbs. (3-4 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the coolant reservoir tank. Tighten the retainer bolts to 4-7 ft. lbs. (5-9 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Attach the fan motor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for proper fan operation.
  14.  

3.3L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the electrical connector from the cooling fan assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper radiator bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two bolts securing the cooling fan frame to the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cooling fan assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cooling fan from the frame assembly.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the cooling fan assembly on the frame. Tighten the motor retainer nuts to 5-6 ft. lbs. (6-8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the cooling fan assembly into the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the two cooling fan mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 5-6 ft. lbs. (6-8 Nm)
  6.  
  7. Install the upper radiator bracket. Tighten the retainer bolts to 9-17 ft. lbs. (12-22 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the electrical harness to the fan motor.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Start the vehicle and check for proper fan operation.
  14.
