  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control knobs by grasping the knob and pulling toward you.
  4.  
  5. Remove the center pocket from the dash assembly. Insert your hand through the open hole, and push the control panel plate out.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the center panel attaching screws and remove the center panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the control assembly attaching screws. Pull the assembly toward you, and disconnect the control cables, and fan switch harness.
  10.  
  11. Remove the control assembly.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Attach the fan switch harness and control cable to the control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the control assembly to the dash panel, and secure in place with the retainer screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the center panel, and secure in place with the attaching screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the control panel plate and press into position.
  8.  
  9. Attach the control knobs.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Test the control panel levers and knobs for proper operation.
  14.  

Sedan, Coupe, Loyale Wagon and Brat

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the temperature control cable from the heater case assembly.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable prytool, remove the individual control knobs from the control assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control panel retainer screws and lift out the control assembly enough to access the control cables, vacuum lines and harness.
  8.  
  9. Detach the control cables from the rear of the control panel. Tag each cable for identification.
  10.  
  11. Tag and disconnect the vacuum lines from the rear of the control panel.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the fan switch harness from the control panel.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Fasten the fan switch harness to the control panel.
  2.  
  3. Attach the vacuum lines to the control panel.
  4.  
  5. Attach the control cables to the rear of the control panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the control knobs.
  8.  
  9. Attach the temperature control cable to the heater case assembly.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Test the control panel for proper operation.
  14.  

XT

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the console box retainer screws followed by the console box.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable prytool, remove the individual control knobs.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retainer screws from the rear of the console box. Lift out the temperature control lever and fan switch lever.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten and tag the control levers and vacuum lines from the temperature control lever.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Attach the control cables and vacuum lines to the temperature control lever assembly.
  2.  
  3. Position the temperature control lever and fan switch lever in the console box, and secure in place using the retainer screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the control knobs.
  6.  
  7. Install the console box using the retainer screws.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Test the control panel for proper operation.
  12.  

Legacy and Impreza

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the temperature control cable from the heater case assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim panel around the control panel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control panel retainer screws and lift out the control assembly enough to access the cable and harnesses at the rear of the panel.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the control cable and wire harnesses from the rear of the control panel.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Attach the control cable and wire harnesses to the rear of the control panel.
  2.  
  3. Position the control panel in the dash, and secure in place with the retainer screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim panel around the control panel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Attach the control cable to the heater case assembly.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Test the control panel for proper operation.
  12.  

SVX

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the dash panel trim plate around the control assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the control panel retainer screws, and lift out the assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the aspirator duct from the rear of the control panel.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the wire harness from the control panel.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Fasten the wire harness to the control panel.
  2.  
  3. Attach the aspirator duct to the control panel.
  4.  
  5. Position the control panel in the dash, and secure with retainer screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the dash panel trim plate around the control assembly.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Test the control panel for proper operation.
  12.
