This transaxle is used in the Justy from 1987-94. It is a 5-speed transaxle with 5 forward speeds and 1 reverse gear. It is available in FWD and 4WD units.
The FWD transaxle is of a 1-piece construction. It houses the clutch, deferential and transaxle main case and side case.
The 4WD transaxle axle is also of a 1-piece construction including the same units as the FWD plus a transfer case. These transaxle assemblies are transversely installed in the engine compartment.
The 4WD operates as follows: when the 4WD switch is OFF, the FWD/4WD selector clutch in the transfer is disengaged, and power is transmitted to the front wheels through clutch transaxle, final gear and front differential. When the 4WD selector switch is ON, the FWD/4WD selector clutch in the transfer is engaged and power is transmitted to the clutch, transaxle, and then to the final gear. Power to the front wheels is transmitted from the final gear through the front differential gear. Power to the rear wheels is transmitted from the final gear through the transfer gear, hypoid gear propeller shaft, rear final gear and rear differential gear.
