Combination Switch

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Justy
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Remove the combination switch mounting screws.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical harness from the combination switch.
  10.  
  11. Remove the combination switch assembly.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the combination switch over the steering shaft.
  2.  
  3. Install the mounting screws.
  4.  
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the combination switch.
  6.  
  7. Install the upper and lower steering column covers.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering wheel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

Sedan, Coupe, Loyale, Wagon and Brat
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical harnesses from the combination switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the three combination switch mounting screws.
  10.  
  11. Remove the combination switch from the steering column.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the combination switch on the steering column.
  2.  
  3. Position the switch and install the three mounting screws.
  4.  
  5. Connect the combination switch electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the steering column covers.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering wheel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

XT
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the mounting screws and remove the lower cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws securing the upper and lower cover together and remove the covers from the steering column.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering wheel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the clip and band fitting the harness to the steering column and disconnect the combination switch electrical harnesses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the combination switch mounting screws and remove the switch from the control wing bracket.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Position the combination switch on the control wing bracket and install the mounting screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connectors and install the clip securing the harness to the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper and lower steering column cover and install the connecting screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower cover under the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

Legacy and Impreza

CAUTION
The air bag system must be disarmed before removing the steering wheel. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment, property damage or personal injury.

WITH AIR BAG
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel.
  6.  


CAUTION
Always carry an air bag assembly, with the bag and trim cover, away from your body. Store the assembly facing upward; never place the assembly face down on any surface.

  1. Disconnect the combination switch electrical harnesses from the body harness connector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 retaining screws and combination switch.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Ensure the combination switches are OFF and the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2.  
  3. Install the combination switch and tighten the screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the center roll connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect the electrical harnesses.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering column covers.
  10.  
  11. Install the steering wheel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the combination switch electrical connectors.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

WITHOUT AIR BAG
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Remove the knee protector.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the combination switch electrical harness and hold-down band.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 screws and combination switch.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Route the combination switch electrical harness around the steering system. Connect the electrical harness and install the hold-down.
  2.  

If equipped with an automatic transaxle, do not place the combination switch over the key interlock release knob.

  1. Position the combination switch and tighten the screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the knee protector and ensure the harness is not caught by adjacent parts.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Install the steering wheel.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

SVX

CAUTION
The air bag system must be disarmed before removing the steering wheel. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment, property damage or personal injury.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 10 minutes before doing any work to allow the air bag time to disarm.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel.
  4.  


CAUTION

  1. Remove the upper steering column cover mounting screws and remove the upper and lower halves of the covers.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the combination switch electrical harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the switch mounting screws and remove the combination switch.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Position the switch on the steering column and install the mounting screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the combination switch electrical harness.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper and lower steering column covers and the cover mounting screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the steering wheel. If equipped with an air bag, install the air bag module.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable. Check the air bag warning light for proper operation.
  10.
