Fig. Bleeding the hydraulic clutch at the slave cylinder

NOTE
To properly bleed the system, it must be bled at the slave cylinder and at the damper. Each of these has an air bleeder on it.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove any components necessary to access the slave cylinder.
  4.
  5. On turbo models, remove the cylinder without disconnecting the clutch hose.
  6.
  7. Connect a vinyl tube to the air bleeder on the damper and put the other end in a jar with clean clutch fluid.
  8.

NOTE
Do not let the fluid level fall too low in the master cylinder. Do not release the pedal with the bleeder open.

  1. With the help of an assistant depressing the clutch pedal, slowly open the bleeder valve. Close the bleeder valve and release the pedal. Repeat this process until no air bubbles appear in the jar.
  2.
  3. Move the tube to the bleeder on the slave cylinder and repeat the process. Check the operation of the clutch after the bleed procedure is complete.
  4.
  5. When complete, reinstall all removed components. On turbo models tighten the slave cylinder bolts to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
  6.
