Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the mounting bolts for the idle air control solenoid valve, and move it aside.
    NOTE
    Do not disconnect the engine coolant hoses from the idle air control solenoid valve.

  8.  
  9. Remove the coolant temperature sensor.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse order removal. Tighten the temperature sensor to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air intake assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the coolant temperature sensor.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse order removal. Tighten the temperature sensor as follows:
    1. 1999-2001 Models: to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
    2.  
    3. 2002-2003 Models: to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the alternator.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the coolant temperature sensor.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse order of removal. Tighten the temperature sensor to 13.3 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the alternator, as required.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air intake duct and air cleaner case.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  8.  
  9. Drain the cooling system, as required.
  10.  
  11. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the sensor to 13.3 ft. lbs.
  4.
