Electric Fan Switch



The ECM controls the operation of the radiator main fan and sub fan depending on the signals from the engine coolant temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor and A/C switch.

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine undercover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower fan shroud mounting bolts, 1998 models only
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the fan electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the accessory drive belt cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the two upper fan shroud mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the main fan assembly.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse order of assembly. Tighten the fan shroud mounting bolts to 6 ft. lbs. (7.5 Nm).
  18.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine undercover.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the fan electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the transmission cooler hose from the clip of the radiator fan motor assembly, if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Remove the accessory drive belt covers.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the overflow hose.
  14.  
  15. Remove the reservoir tank.
  16.  
  17. Remove the two upper fan shroud mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the main fan assembly.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse order of assembly. Tighten the fan shroud mounting bolts to 3.6 ft. lbs. (4.9 Nm).
  22.  

Non-Turbo Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine undercover.
  6.  
  7. Drain approximately 1 quart of engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the fan electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Remove the transmission cooler hose from the clip of the radiator fan motor assembly, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the accessory drive belt cover.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the overflow hose.
  18.  
  19. Remove the reservoir tank.
  20.  
  21. Remove the three upper fan assembly mounting bolts.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
  24.  
  25. Detach the power steering hose from the clip on the radiator.
  26.  
  27. Lift the engine fan assembly up and out of the engine compartment.
  28.  
  29. Installation is the reverse order of assembly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 3.6 ft. lbs. (4.9 Nm).
  30.  

With Turbocharger
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper radiator bracket, if equipped with automatic transmission.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine undercover.
  8.  
  9. Drain approximately 1 quart of engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the fan electrical connectors.
  12.  
  13. Remove the radiator undercover mounting bolt, if equipped with automatic transmission.
  14.  
  15. Pull the lower radiator hose upward to separate the radiator from the radiator under cover. Remove the automatic transmission hose from the two clips on the fan motor assembly.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Remove the accessory drive belt cover.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the overflow hose.
  22.  
  23. Remove the reservoir tank.
  24.  
  25. Remove the three upper fan assembly mounting bolts.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
  28.  
  29. Detach the power steering hose from the clip on the radiator.
  30.  
  31. Lift the engine fan assembly up and out of the engine compartment.
  32.  
  33. Installation is the reverse order of assembly. Tighten the mounting bolts to 3.6 ft. lbs. (4.9 Nm).
